Pre painted photo etched display base

Bored of seeing your favourite 1/72 scale WWII IJN aircraft sitting on a wooden or glass shelf? Well Eduard may have the perfect answer with this pre coloured photo etched section of the Akagi Carrier Deck lift area.

Contents

Inside the resealable plastic bag is one pre coloured photo etched deck printed onto a sheet of brass.
This looks like part of the carrier deck from the Akagi after it was refitted in 1938 when the three flight decks were replaced with the more conventional single flight deck. The Eduard base has the two planked pattern, a pattern that the more knowledgeable experts of Japanese carrier design agree was the principal plank pattern of the Akagi. The base is painted on one side. The gaps between the planks are lightly etched as are the lash down points [the small grey dots] and the area around the lift. The colours look very good particularly the wooden planking which has a hint of wood grain to it. A nice touch are some of the light stains between some of the planks.
The metal itself is fairly thin and quite easy to bend if you are not careful. It might be an idea to glue it to something a lot more rigid. There is a lightly attached brass surround that comes away very easily.

Dimensions:
L: 132mm [5 3/16 inches]
W: 110mm [4 5/16 inches]

Not particularly generous in size, you will find a “Kate” with a 1/72 wingspan of 215mm overhanging this portion of the deck a fair bit.

Conclusions

So if you want something to sit your “Clauds”, “Susies”, “Jeans”, “Vals”, “Kates, “Zeros” etc then this is well worth considering. The price may put some off, but the quality and looks are first rate. Great idea Eduard.
SUMMARY
Highs: Looks very good. Finely etched detail.
Lows: Price, size.
Verdict: Highly recommended, definitely time for me to acquire some IJN kits, something I have meant to do for some time. Nicely done Eduard.
