Although the Platz 1/72 T-33 is a very good kit, the cockpit detail does fall short of what we expect nowadays. Eduard has stepped up with not only a detail set for the cockpit, but details for other parts of the airframe and engine.

Inside the semi re sealable packaging is:
-1 x pre coloured self-adhesive photo etched fret.
-1 x non coloured photo etched fret.
-1 x A4 double sided sheet of instructions.

The pre coloured fret has a wonderful looking set of instrument panels and side consoles that will instantly transform the look of the cockpit. The nice looking kit seats also have a fair bit of added detail, including seat straps, harnesses, seat activation handles, cushioning for the arms and a replacement set of sides for the seats. The latter does require some surgery to the kits seats entailing trimming of existing plastic walls and replacing them with the PE parts. There are also parts for the cockpit walls and one piece rudder pedals.
Also included on this fret are some non coloured parts for the undercarriage.
The non coloured fret may lack the visual impact of the pre coloured sheet, but the quality of the etching detail draws the eye. Particularly eye catching is the intricate etching around engine turbine, the gear doors of the main undercarriage and the bay of the main undercarriage. There are a lot of parts for the undercarriage and airbrake bays that will add a lot more interest, the kits air brake bays are particularly bereft of detail. Eduard supply PE actuating arms and torque links for all the gear legs and there are even hydraulic hoses for the main undercarriage legs. There are many small and beautifully etched detail parts for things like grills and fuel tank access doors. But they do sit slightly proud of the surface of the plastic when attached. There are two parts representing the rear most part of the jet engine. Not sure how much you will see of it as the bore of the kits jet pipe is very small. But you will know it’s there, it’s a modelling thing. Also on this fret are foot rests for the two seats and a set of four mirrors for the canopy.
One set of replacement parts that you will either see as a godsend or a nightmare are a array of replacement blade aerials for the lower fuselage just aft of the trailing edge of the wing. The blobs of plastic on the kit represent the aerials so they will be well worth replacing.
Some parts require folding and bending before fitting. As usual Eduard has etched the lines of the folds to make it a very simple task.
The instructions maintains Eduards very high standards. The black line drawings and the instructional symbols as well as written instructions in Czech and English are very clear. The only woolly bits are an etched piece for kit a part [C11] that does not exist in the Platz T-33 I have. Also the illustration for the fitting of the seat activation lever is a bit ambiguous.

Conclusions:

This is an excellent release from Eduard for the Platz 1/72 T-33, particularly for the cockpit parts and the undercarriage and air brake bays. It would be a shame not to have a detailed cockpit under that large clear canopy.
