History

The history of the Albatros D. type fighter has been recounted at Aeroscale previously and need not be brought up here. It is a known concern that main stream injection model based models are simplified in design to ease the production of a kit and is limited to the technology of the time.

Resin based companies are not as limited to the concerns found in plastic injection moulding. Note the varied deminsional surfaces in Barracuda Studios recent re-release of their Albatros Seat in 1:48

I was building Off topic jet age kits at the age of 7. I remember building my first WWI kit way back in 1964-5 at the age of 8-9. Hundreds of 1/72 scale Revell and Airfix kits later my eyes started to change and I wanted to do more detail. With the advent of DML / Dragon and Eduard I sold off my ...

Here is the visiual difference on an Eduard 1:48 Alb. D.III kit. The top image uses the stock 80xx series wheels that come in the kits. The bottom image shows the aftermarket Barracuda wheels. The Eduard 81xx series stock kit wheels are exactly the same with just a small amount of more detail present. The Alb. D. type fighters used used the Type II, 760mm x 100mm wheel and tire. The rim diameter is 574mm x 72.1 wide, has 2 x 20=40 spokes, spoke diameter 4mm. The hub is 160mm long with 55.25mm bore for a 55mm diameter.axle. The flange outer diameter is 96.5mm and spoke hole center diameter is 80mm. This is the common wheel for D Class aircraft with Merc. D.III F.1466 - F1466a motor
