Brassin Nose Gun Bay Detailing Set for the Eduard Kit

by: Tim Hatton [ LITESPEED ]

Eduard seems to be throwing everything bar the kitchen sink at their recent new kits. The 1/72 Bf 110e is no exception. Eduard has released an interesting nose gun bay detailing set in their Brassin range.

Contents:

All the contents particularly the resin ones are very well protected in the vac formed blister packaging. There are a couple of layers of sponge to stop the resin parts rattling around. Inside the packaging is:
-1 x resin upper nose fairing.
-1 x resin lower nose fairing.
-1 x resin gun mount.
-4 x resin MG 17 machine guns.
-4 x resin ammunition boxes.
-1 x resin gun camera.
-4 x Photo etched doors for the ammunition box bays.

The upper nose fairing is beautifully thin with some fine raised detailing depicting the framework. It is connected by a thin film of resin to its casting block. The lower nose fairing is a little thicker and require a hole cutting for the gun camera. Although the instructions don’t suggest it the slots need to be cut out to fit the ammunition boxes. You have the option of fitting up to four ammunition boxes or none at all, it’s up to you. There are photo etched doors for the ammunition box bays if you do decide to open them up. The ammunition boxes has some fine detail, the bullets look particularly convincing. The gun mount has some lovely crisp detail including gas bottles and pipes.
The resin MG 17 machine guns are nicely cast with some fine detail including barrel cooling holes, upper fairing mounts and cartridge feed. Be careful attaching the guns as there are two for the right and two for the left. Thet will look a bit odd if you mistakenly place the guns in the wrong area. The gun mount has four obvious slots where the gun attachment points go.
The instructions are fine for the construction of the resin and PE parts with very clear black line drawings. The English and Czech written instructions and instructional symbols are all helpful. Unfortunately there is absolutely no guidance for painting the items.
There is no need to alter the plastic kit at all, just don’t attach the plastic forward bulkhead [part A3].

Contents:

This is an excellent set from Eduard and improves the look of the nose gun bay enormously. If you want to display this area open then this set is well worthwhile. A pity there is no painting instructions.
SUMMARY
Highs: Some fine cast detail. The resin parts have relatively thin attachment points to their blocks.
Lows: No painting instructions.
Verdict: Highly recommended.
