Eduard has released a pre coloured photo etched set so that you can make up two step ladders, a ladder and a stepped platform to create a diorama around the Eduard 1/72 Bf 110E.

Contents:

Inside the semi re sealable packaging is a single pre coloured photo etched set containing:
-2 x small step ladders.
-1 x tall ‘A’ ladder.
-1 x stepped working platform.
-1 x sheet of instructions.
Eduard has printed coloured detail on both sides of the fret which is handy as the rungs of the various ladders can be viewed from any angle. Unfortunately I was so keen to build this release I neglected to take images of the fret, so I have included the image from Eduards website.
The two step ladders and the ‘A’ ladder are pretty straightforward to build. Parts need to be carefully folded, use a photo etch bending tool or the edge of something straight. The frame work of the ladders is very thin and will distort very easily so bending them along a straight edge will help. On the two step ladders and the ‘A’ ladder Eduard has incorporated the steps with the frame so all you need to do is carefully turn the steps 90° or so. One tread did break off, but that was my fault as I turned the tread the wrong way up. There are lines representing the wood grain on one side and this face upwards. I would have thought for safety sake the tall ‘A’ ladder should have a brace between the two sections of ladder. There is no brace with the set but they could easily be scratch built.
The larger stepped platform is a little more challenging. The steps and the platform are separate parts so need carefully positioning while gluing. As all the parts are pre painted it is necessary to scrape a little of the paint away from the areas you need to glue.

Conclusions:

These look pretty good and will be a useful addition for anyone wanting to build a Luftwaffe aircraft servicing area. Eduard has released this set for the Bf 110, but I am sure it will look fine with other Luftwaffe aircraft. Not a set for the absolute beginner, but not overly taxing putting them together.
SUMMARY
Highs: These are very good looking set of ladders for anyone looking to build a diorama.
Lows: Not a release for photo etched newbies.
Verdict: Highly recommended.
