Eduard has released a 1/72 DB 601A/N in their Brassin range. Intended for the Companies new line of 1/72 Bf 110 kits. There are eleven resin parts and a fret of photo etched parts is also included.

Inside the vac formed transparent blister packaging is:
-1 x engine block.
-1 x rear firewall.
-4 x exhaust stacks.
-2 x engine mounts.
-2 x upper engine cowls.
-1 x supercharger housing.
-1 x oil tank.
-1 x fret of photo etched parts.
-2 x A5 instruction sheets.

The resin parts are protected by a couple layers of foam cushioning.
The twelve cylinder inverted engine block is nicely cast with crisp detail and no air bubbles at all. Detail highlights include the ignition wires, reduction gear housing and there is even the lifting brackets present.
The rear fire wall is nicely detailed and includes location points for the engine bearers. The two cowls are beautifully thin and there are photo etched ribs to add. The inclusion of two pairs of exhaust stacks is a great idea as the quality is very good indeed. The plastic kit parts are good, but these are even better. All the resin parts with the exception of the engine block are attached to their casting blocks by a thin film of resin. So should not present any major difficulties removing them.
Obviously there is some surgery required to the kit. The most difficult part will be removing the cowl attached to the upper wing half. There are a couple of photo etched partial ribs to blank of the gaps in the wing either side of the engine nacelle. Some scratch building is required, creating pipes from suitable wire.
The instructions are very good, particularly indicating the areas in pink that need to be cut away from the plastic. Attachment points are indicated in blue. The only negative is the lack of painting instructions.

Conclusions

Eduard has unashamedly produced this wonderful looking engine for their own series of Bf 110 kits. The castings are first rate and the thinness of the fairing is exceptional. The construction and location in the model looks straightforward. All you need is a bit of courage to remove the plastic engine fairings. Outstanding Eduard.
