The petite scale kits are rather neglected, but the overall climate seems to change. Appropriate decal set are even harder to find than the kits, so the appearance of new sets must be welcomed and greeted with sympathy. The Balkan Models chose the generic set of Yugoslav Airforce Flags & Numbers as their first set in this scale, which was just the right thing to do. This set enables you to depict virtually any of the Yugoslav MiG-21s, Soko G-4s, Soko G-2s,Soko J-21s, Soko J-22s, T-33s, F-84s, F-86s, F-47s, C-47s, Ju-52s, Il-14s and Il-18s, Canadair CL-215s, S-55s, Mi-8s, Gazelles… and probably several more types that are not mentioned here; the availability of kits is just another issue.
This is a “generic” set, and decals include three types of tactical numbers (black and white) and serial numbers, national roundels, and fin flags with separate stars. The lack of the smallest numbers present on some of the Yugoslav MiG-21s is regrettable, and especially with such beautiful new kits being released by Eduard.
The set is accompanied with informative instruction that illustrates the standard placement and dimensions of the roundels and numbers in 1/1 scale. The T-33 is to be consulted only as an example; I advise you to consult your reference for the exact placement for different types. The overall print quality is very nice and the decals appear to be in perfect register.
conclusion
This is most welcomed addition by the Balkan Models and I highly recommend it to all 1/144 modelers. Well done, Balkan Models!
