During the biggest post-war exercise maneuvers “Sloboda ‘71”, the fighter core consisted of the 117th regiment from Bihać Airbase equipped with MiG-21PFMs, and the reconnaissance task was taken over by the 352nd Squadron equipped with MiG-21Rs. All the aircraft participating in the maneuvers were marked with a white lightning on the nose. Few years later, MiG-21Ms, MFs and Bis of the 204th regiment have taken part in the second maneuvers “Golija ‘76”, and the participating aircraft were decorated with a light blue stripe on the nose and the wings. Some MiG-21 Bis had white stripes extending vertically from the root to the fin of the vertical stabilizer.
the set
The choice of subjects included in this set is virtually identical as in the 1:48 scale set that I already reviewed
here, save for the inclusion of a single MiG-21PFM, No. 22724. It also has a smaller stencil selection for a single aircraft. As it is the case with the bigger decal set, this one is accompanied with very informative and meticulously researched profiles with complete painting guide. The cross reference paint chart will help you navigate through sometimes murky waters of different hobby paint brands. The overall quality of the set is very good, with sharp and crisp colors, and no registration issues. Some decals are multi-part, so attention is required (don’t turn the stars upside-down!).
conclusion
this is rather interesting multi-option decal set that focuses on rather exotic subjects that seem to be slightly out of standard YAF painting guide, which makes this set even more attractive and appealing. Nice touch!
