Early Yugoslav MiGs
Early Yugoslav MiG-21 F-13s

by: Entoni Seperic [ ESEPERIC ]

In 1962 Yugoslavia acquired the first single seated MiG-21s. Between 1962 and 1966, a total of 41 aircraft carrying domestic designation code L-12 (MiG-21 F-13) were delivered to the YAF fighter squadrons, which were already equipped with F-86E and F-84G fighter. It must have been a unique sight to see them side by side at the peak of the Cold War! The newly acquired Yugoslav supersonic jet soon gained the sympathy of the pilots, and the American aircraft were soon replaced in the squadrons. The aircraft were delivered to Yugoslavia unpainted and with Russian stencils, which the new stencils and silver coat applied after the first overhaul.

the set
This highly interesting selection of decals enables you to build at least two of the following aircraft:

  • MiG-21 F-13 (L-12), No. 22518;
  • MiG-21 F-13 (L-12), No. 22520;
  • MiG-21 F-13 (L-12), No. 22524;
  • MiG-21 F-13 (L-12), No. 22528;
  • MiG-21 F-13 (L-12), No. 22537;
  • MiG-21 F-13 (L-12), No. 22540.

The set is very nicely printed, and all the decals appear flawless and in good register. The accompanying two-fold sheet instruction is nicely illustrated, and provides enough information about the exact placement of stencils. This is illustrated on single example, and the exact placement of roundels, tactical and serial numbers, as well as fin flags, is shown for each aircraft. The suggested kit is Revell, which still holds some aces up the sleeve, and will be further improved with this fine selection of Yugoslav L-12s. Highly recommended!

About Entoni Seperic (eseperic)
FROM: CROATIA HRVATSKA

I returned to plastic modeling in 2010 after a break of almost 20 years. Seemed like an opportunity to exercise some patience, and relieve tension. I am concentrating on WW2 aircraft, particularly Luftwaffe and the aircraft that are somehow connected with this part of the world. Some skills are comi...
