Roy Sutherland has recently added three sets of 1:32 P-47 Thunderbolt resin mainwheels to his BarracudaCast range. They are designed to be direct replacements for the styrene versions in Hasegawa's range of excellent largescale "Jugs", but can also be adapted for use with the Trumpeter and Revell kits.
Each set arrives neatly packed in a zip-lock bag and comprises:
Each is exquisitely cast and finished. The hubs are in the main castings are beautifully crisp and detailed, with a separate slotted or plain cover to fit in place. The three styles of tread pattern are beautifully produced - absolutely precise, but also beautifully smooth, with none of the ridging that is sometimes evident in other companies' accessories.
Preparation will be very quick and simple - really, no more than removing the casting blocks from the wheels and whichever type of hub you need, and opening up the flashed-over openings in the slotted hubs if you're using them. The sets include an excellent set of instructions, offering painting tips along with a simple 4-stage assembly sequence illustrated with clear colour photos.
Conclusion
Roy Sutherland's P-47 mainwheels wheels appear faultless in my estimation - and they are another example of why he has a richly deserved reputation as a master modeller who is second to none. Unreservedly recommended.
Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AEROSCALE.
SUMMARY
Highs: Superbly cast and detailed. Excellent instructions.Lows: None - although, with the mainwheels being so superb, it does seem a shame that tailwheels aren't also provided - but you can't have everything in life. Verdict: Roy Sutherland's beautifully produced resin mainwheels will provide an excellent upgrade for any largescale "Jug".
