Iliad Design have recently released a set of decals offering a very neat twist over the usual subjects available - all the aircraft featured are WW2 "milestone" aircraft. That is, milestones in terms of production numbers.
Five machines are featured, each a different aircraft type. So, we have:
1. B-24H s/n 252283 - the 1,000th Liberator to roll off the Ford Willow Run production line.
2. B-17G s/n 238113 - the 1,000th Fortress built by the Douglas Aircraft Plant in California.
3. "Yippee" - the iconic orange-red P-38 s/n 424396 that was the 5,000th built.
4. P-47D-30 "Ten Grand Thunderbolt" - from Farmingdale and as its name suggests, the 10,000th built.
5. F6F-5, "White 76" - the 10,000th Hellcat, serving on USS Ticonderoga in May 1945.
The decals themselves look to be superb quality - thin and glossy, and printed in perfect register on the sample sheet. The colours look very accurate and very opaque, so the predominant white should have no trouble on subjects like "Yippee".
The instructions are printed in colour on a single A-4 sheet, with high quality profiles accompanied by descriptions of each aircraft on the front, and simple plan views on the reverse.
Conclusion
Grouping the milestone aircraft together on a single sheet is a great idea, as the subjects will look excellent lined up in a collection. I see the makings of a fun Aeroscale group build here too!
Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AEROSCALE.
SUMMARY
Highs: Excellent quality decals for a selection of iconic aircraft.Lows: None that I noticed.Verdict: Offering a selection of different aircraft with a common theme is a very neat idea.
