About Athlen
What got me back into modelling after a long hiatus is a little unusual -- a recurring dream. In a vast, elaborate shop, I found myself searching for a MiG-21. (Often I thought I couldn't afford it, not realizing that dream money doesn't ever leave your real-world pocket.) It was, then, literally a dream come true when I bought a MiG-21 from a local shop. I like German planes, and that's what I like to build now. As a chemist, I've developed very good dexterity for fine work, so I want to model 'properly'. Chemists also learn patience. We spend a lot of time waiting for solvents to evaporate, which is exactly the same thing as waiting for paint to dry! -- In earlier years I built maybe 50 models; mostly modern airplanes (including the speculative Revell F-19 Stealth Fighter) and some ships (the Titanic, a DD Ward, DD Fletcher, CGN Long Beach, CVN Nimitz, CG Bunker Hill and a SSN Los Angeles). Despite never seeing (to this day) a single episode of the series, I built perhaps 20 Mobile Suit Gundams as well. Of course, my youthful efforts weren't very good...
