About TreborYarg1
My name is Rob Gray and I am 49 years old and live in the town of Halifax where I was born. I fell in love with Aircraft during the very week of my 4th birthday and not so very long after this my Dad used to tell me about the stories from his wartime years working on the Airfields of the 3rd Air Division of the 8th USAAF in East Anglia. I learned much about the Mighty Eighth in those days which was long before Roger Freeman's wonderful books on the subject. I started building Airfix kits at the age of 8 and served my 'apprentice' years throughout the rest of my childhood. Having learned to model properly, I studied the aircraft and operations of the Mighty Eighth and have been building mainly quarter scale examples of all the Eighth's aircraft for twenty five years now, this subject does provide more than enough variety for one life time, particularly with the many airframes in supporting roles. I have been lucky enough to win quite a few awards including some coveted ones at the UK IPMS National Championships. I finished competing after the 1999 UK Nationals after winning another three awards and following my Dad's death a few months earlier. I wrote articles for Scale Aircraft Modelling in the past ( B-24 Assembly Ships of the 8th USAAF - Vol 21 no7 - being amongst the best ) and have judged at the UK Nationals amongst other shows also. I tend to build for myself these days, that is for the fun of it, although I am attached to a local model group - Keighley Plastic Model Club - and enjoy the monthly meetings greatly along with the comeraderie that it brings. I build 1/48 through to 1/24 scales and only the subjects that flew with the 8th U.S.A.A.F. but does include the collecting of 1/48 related airfield vehicles for diorama purposes.
