Sometime in the past 2 days my DH2 went AWOL. I noticed this morning it wasn't in place. It must have fallen behind my bookshelf when I was stumbling around my room in the dark the other night to get a CD (long story) I've not yet tried to retrieve it. I'm confident I can repair it but 'till I'm ready may it rest in piece....

A nice little aircraft you have built there Mike. I hope you find it and it hasn't been damaged too badly. I often have knocked things flying during the night, not having an ipod I still listen to CD's to put me to sleep.

Thank you both for the kind words...
Yes I will blame my cat-good idea.
I'm setting up a memorial trust fund, please, anyone feel free to PM for the address.
In the meantime I have a Roden Nieuport 28 that needs my attention...

I thought I would add my sorrow about your loss. ONLY other modelers truly know what a tragedy this is. It was a beautiful build. Hope to see some new stuff from you. Take care. Russell

I too feel your pain Mike.
many years ago, my partner at the time managed similar damage to my Bluemax DH2 in the process of moving it to another shelf. It still languishes in many small bits in a box.
On the other hand, the same girl managed the same feat TWICE with my Bluemax Sopwith Camel... both times, I rebuilt it... and each time I was happier with the result.

If you can bring your self to do so, rebuild your pride and joy.

Cheers,

Hugh

Aeroscale Memorandum Hangar #1

From: the desk of Stephen T. (JackFlash) Lawson

To : all Aeroscale Members

Subject : DH 2 #6015 -1/48 , MIA status change to destroyed.

It is with deepest sympathies we beg to post that initial reports have confirmed the destruction of Mike ( modelguy2) Taylor's build #61015-1/48 . Aerial reconn of the trenches at the rear of the Shelf Salient show the shattered remnants. While retrieval is possible due to the scheduled tasks of the comming days will be some time before the salvage takes place.

Condolences and respects. Also correction to serial 1/48 not 72.

Oh NO!
Bang goes the theory that all that rigging would hold everything together!

I would have cried less for you had I not seen the photos. A real loss, I feel your pain. I lost my 1/72 Roden Pfalz D.III in much the same fashion, and it was on a base with a clear Plexiglas cover.

Don't know whether to blames dogs or cats, could have been either. The dogs always look guilty and the cats are always, "Who, Me?"

Now my rigging may have been helpful. At the time this one was built I was in a carbon(boron) fiber stage so each line is an individual piece glued in place-nasty stuff if you ever step on a piece. Now I do sew my wings on though-my recent 1/72 Jennt is an example. Thanks for the requiem Stephen but it's 1/48 and I believe I'll fix 'er up one of these days

Keep your chin up, Mike! I fully sympathise with you. I can only imagine all the work that you have put into that beatiful model! And now - "no strings attached"...?

I recently lost my precious Goose when moving furniture. Most details broke off (I have not taken any pictures of the wrecked model) and the fuselage got nasty schratch. I put in quite a few hours to that build, so I was rather devastated! I promised myself, however, that someday I will either repair the Goose or build a new (and bettter!) one!

Also gone to the higher skies
In a similar fashion, I look forward to seing all future stringbags!

Cheers! // PolarBear

Mike,
Really a shame as the DH2 was a real beauty, almost had a tear in my eye seeing that pic of it behind the dresser. Lets hope it rises like a Phoenix to take to the heights of our model skies again.

Mike i can anderstand your pain, because i have passed the same with you a few months ago when my best 3, 1/48 models felt down from my hands when i was trying to move them out of the shelf just to take some photos. There was in the same base covered with a glass to protect them from the dust, but the glass couldn't protect them from me. I can only manage to hold and save the glass, the small base with 3 models fall down , fortunately not to the floor but two shelfs down and the base landed above them.
