Hi all,
I've been told from my history professor during university time that Italian WW1 truks had hard rubber tyres (i.e. they were not inflated as they are today).
I assume the same goes for aeroplane tyres.
But I wonder, is it true?
What do you think?

ciao

Hi Edo: I think most of them were inflatable. I have seen photos of flat tires, and semi inflated. The hole in the wheel covers is for the air stem valve.

I think yes inflatable, though there was always exceptions, theres a pic in the DIII windsock data file of a DIII (OAW) with tyres made of wrapped fabric. Solid rubber I think would be deemed too expensive as it was always in short supply.

I agree with the others. I really don't think hard or solid rubber would be to common as it was a valuable comodity.

just as an after thought, most trucks seemed to have cart type wheels I think which would have hard tyres rather like the ww2 german pak guns
