...Brief bit of drama at the end as the floor monster ate the aerial...

Hate that. Thought I was the only one that had a hungry floor monster (I work over the rough concrete in the basement of my 100 year old house - impossible to find small parts on), but I guess I'm not alone.

It's amazing what the floor monster can eat. And I can't even blame carpeting, I've got all hardwood floor in my apartment.

Hi all,

I am calling my build finished! Upwards and onwards to my next couple of builds. The kit was the 1/48 Hasegawa Mk.VIII and I finished it in markings from the Aeromaster "Aussie Spitfires Part 3" for ZP-Q/A58 614 of 457 Squadron at Morotai in 1945. This airplane was flown by Flight Lt. Alf Glendenning. I have been working on this for about a month and it was build OOB with the edition of an Ultracast Seat. Hope you like it.

Mark

Greetings everyone,

Yesterday I decided to start working on my Spitfire while the primer was drying on my OS2U and one thing led to another and well, you know now they both have primer. The kit is ARII Mk. IIIV. Not bad exterior wise and only has 30 parts so it was real quick to put togther and the fit was really nice. The kit decals are not so good. I'll replace them with aftermarket for USAAF version. I'll continue working on it after I finish my Kingfisher for Anti-shipping campaign.

All the best,
Brian

Nice work Mark and Brian. Lovely weathering on your Spit Mark. Brian excellent images from your workbench, the Spit and the OS2U look like they will be masterpieces.

I made some good progress last weekend after a few days away from the build. Took my time with the masking [Tamiya tape is brilliant] and painting the invasion stripes on the wing. I also applied the PR Blue, so its looking a bit nearer the finish.

All the best and keep up the good work.

How about some more pictures? What kit are you using? What markings are you doing? Any problems with the build thus far? Inquiring minds want to know.. "Q"

Beautiful Spit, Mark. The shark mouth looks great and your subtle weathering is very realistic.

Thanks for participating in the campaign - a great entry.

Blimey Albert that's a bit racey Excellent, look forward to seeing you build your Spit. On the subject of build pictures can we have a few more please gents. It is part of the deal to recieve your campaign award. I don't know about anyone else, but I am just as keen to see builds as I am seeing the finished model. The build pics also help people try new techniquies and improve building skills and finishes. Does not matter whether your building out the box or using masses of aftermarket goodies, lets see more build information and pics please.
Some nice finished Spits so far, dont forget to post images in the Gallery when it's running again. Some of you might have noticed the Gallery is not working at the moment, but please bare with us.
All the best.

Theres nothing like turning up late to a party is there!
Totally forgot i'd put myself in for this campaign, however thanks to the campaign page letting you know what you've entered i'm here to start a spitfire.

my original plan was to build an AZ models MkI early spitfire with the flat hood and two bladed prop, however this might not be the easiest kit to try to build to a deadline.
a quick root around the stash and i've found three airfix MkIa spits, all the 1979 tooling, but ones from the duxford box set, another from the BBMF box set and the original H*AZ boxing.
My big plan is to start all of them at the same time, if i can get them all done thats nice, if i look like i'm going to struggle to finish them all then i'll just concentrate on one.
I also have the new tool 1/72 MkIa DW*K from airfix that might manage to creep into my builds for this campaign.

As we all know-
"you can never have too many spitfires!"

Phil, waiting to see your airforce take shape. I made some progress with my Mk. XIV and found a (new to me) way to fill in those gaps that I hate to sand by using a method that Nigel Julian posted called "Filling Gaps made easy"

Took me all of 15 minutes to accomplish and no sanding.

its always interesting to me to see slightly more unusual versions of well known aircraft.

as for my own progress, well my pilots have on the groovy merry go round of paint-

this pic makes me think of the theme tune to magic roundabout!

the brave pilots of A flight wait for their next scramble.

Some wonderful progress and finishes going on here, and as per usual, I'm late for the party.

I thought I'd better get started, and have chosen the 1/48 Academy Mk. XIV as my builders kit. Along with it, I have the Aires cockpit kit, the QB hood, a Cooper Details prop, and I'll dig up some AM wheels as I go along.

Here's a sprue-shot, just to show it was not started prior to yesterday:

I did get started last evening, just cleaning up parts and freeing resin parts from their casting blocks with my trusty, favorite saw.

Next, I decided to tackle the PE, film, resin sandwich style cockpit console. I thought hard on how to approach this, as I've never done this type before.

It made sense to me to dab some yellow and then some white paint on the back side of the printed film, so the instruments might stand out better. I also dabed a little white on the backboard before gluing on the film.

Just waiting for paint to dry now, while I post this, but I'll soon glue on the PE face. Trying to treat each part of the model as a model within itself.
Hope to have further progress updates by next day. Guy

Nice start, Guy. This looks like it is going to be a very detailed Spitfire. It will be interesting to follow your build.

I am keeping things simple with the old Airfix Spitfire Mk. V. It looks a little "heavy" on the detail side, but looks like it will still be a presentable Spitfire.
I am planning to build it as a Soviet machine inspired by the picture below if I can find the right decals in the spares box.

More to follow
