Excellent work everyone! I seem to be on the closing stretch with the big Camel, so hope to start on the Sea Vixen very soon.

Sorry everybody, just had a forced 6 months out, and time is limited, afraid I have to bail out. I love that Pup, my kind of model.

The main thrust of my efforts for this campaign is still the Sea Venom, but as I only have two campaigns on the workbench at the moment (I generally have at least 3 or 4 projects on the go), I have started another model a week ago, and it has only just hit me that it belongs in this campaign! This is Hasegawa's 1/72 Sea Harrier FRS.1. For personal reasons, it could only ever be in Falklands Campaign markings:

This will be a very simple OOB build.

Cheers Everybody!

Nice SHAR Lee.

Turning into the home straight on the pup.

Painting the woodgrain on the prop.

Done, and the medium used, Windsor & Newton artisan water soluble oil paint.

The prop will need leaving for a couple weeks to dry.

The lewis gun and it's magazine given a coat off Tamiya light gunmetal.

Just needs the grips picking out in wood brown and a wash to bring out the detail.

Simon--Great work with the grain effect on the prop.

Lee---Great to see a Sea Harrier in the thread. You doing the light grey or dark grey scheme? La Muerta Negra!!!!!!!!

Best wishes,

Ian

Thanks Ian,

The two tricks to the grain I forgot to mention, that make it easy, use the oil straight from the tube, don't thin it and use an old brush, one that won't hold a point.

@Ian - I'm doing the dark sea grey Falklands campaign scheme. My father is a Falklands veteran, and one of the first models he built for me was Airfix's 1/48 FRS.1, so in reality, it was that plane, and that kit that got me into the hobby 30 odd years ago.

@Simon - that prop looks amazing - very realistic!

Lee---I will be looking forward to the SHAR. It was such a great aircraft. Hats off to your dad for his Falklands service too.

My Sea Hurricane finished. Still some silvering an some of the small decals but better than the last attempt.

Cam----The Sea Hurricane looks good. I am not seeing much silvering in the photos like you described. If there is some residual silvering, maybe it will dry brush out. Anyway, I like the build. The Hurricane had such great lines!

Best wishes,

Ian

The level of work here continues to be outstanding, well done everyone!

I've gotten started on my Airfix 1/48 Sea Vixen. Here's the start photo:

 photo Startphoto_zps8466d5ea.jpg

Here are the seats with some tape seat belts (trying to keep to mostly out of the box here):

 photo seats_zps7b1e45d3.jpg

Interestingly, the seats are slightly different. The radar operators seat has canopy cutting edges on the top above the parachute box and Airfix caught this. Nice job!

Here's the completed cockpit before installation into the fuselage. Pilot's side:

Observer's side:

That's it for the moment, hopefully more next weekend. So far a very clean and simple build with good detail and fit. Gotta figure out which one I want to do, though.

Looking good there Michael, I will be following your progress with interest. I'd love to have the new 1/48 in my collection, but there is simply no room on the shelf for it, so I'll have to make do with 2 x 1/72 Sea Vixens!

Anyway, progress to report. I have done some more work on the Sea Venom's bang seats - sculpted thicker parachute packs in green stuff, then fashioned harnesses from tamiya tape, super glued them on, and finally, soaked the harnesses in watered down PVA so they would sit flat against the parachute pack.

Also, the canopy rear deck area has received some badly needed attention. Images of the rear deck equipment seem to be quite hard to come by (according to several build logs I have read), but luckily I was able to find some images of a Sea Venom in an Australian museum:

Based on these pics, and some bits from the trusty bits box, I have come up with something pretty close I think:

The sharp eyed among you will spot the Sea Harrier in the background, which is currently in the paint shop.

Cheers Everybody!

The Sea Hurricane looks fantastic.

Do I detect a Sea King dipping sonar on the rear deck of the Sea Venom?

I am back on board with the Buccaneer, working on the airbrake assembly. This is taking quite a while to get right as I have had to scratchbuild the linking bodywork from the fuselage to the petals. As most of it will be hidden(ish)the most I am concerned with is the external appearance and making sure the sit is right. Thanks to Jessie pointing me in the direction of John Adams at Aeroclub I now have 2 ejector seats that will not only fit the cockpit but are narrow enough to be offset as per original.

Onwards and upwards

Well spotted that man! The parts were left over from an Airfix Sea King I built for the Rescue Me campaign a while back. There are also a few random resin items, spare bits of PE, and softened styrofoam rods for the cables.

Cracking builds going on here. great job guys.

A bit more progress on the final stages.

The Lewis gun given a black wash and the ammunition in the drum picked out in brass.

The grips painted wood brown, the ammo drum washed and fitted.

and the undercart rigged.

now if the oil on the prop will dry I will be there.

Simon - that rigging is amazing, hat's of to ya, I certainly couldn't do that!

A bit more (badly needed) detail on the Sea Venom. A little more to do on the rear deck, and cannon barrels added. Next I will turn my attention to the undercarriage bays. The Sea Harrier is almost there too.

Cheers Everyone!

Ok, that's the Sea Harrier finished! It was just a small diversion, purely OOB (I really needed to make a start on the pile of Harrier kits I've accumulated) but fun nonetheless.

Cheers Everybody!
