This will be a build review/blog of Eduards new tool Fw 190A-8 in 1/72nd scale.
Item No - 70111
Price - £13.99 (Hannants)

I will be adding just about everything Eduard have released for this kit in the A.M department, just to spice things up .
First up a quick look at the parts for this gorgeous looking kit.

Also included in the box, is a colour instruction booklet, two sets of decals for the 4 marking options, and a set of masks.
Several parts are not used, which does mean Eduard will be releasing different variants over time.
Now a quick look at the detail on the exterior of the kit.

The decals and masks I will show at a later date when I get round to painting the little thing.
Build to follow soon..........

Well first up is the cockpit.
Eduard's kit supplied cockpit is very nice with a choice of Photo etch or plastic control panels and instrument panels and a P.E harness. However Eduard have crafted a resin replacement cockpit set, which has a resin tub and seat along with a P.E instrument panel.
Item No - 672 081
Price - £10.99 (Hannants)

Contents

I will be using the fabric belts in the cockpit instead of the P.E parts.
Item No - 73033
Price - £4.50

Well the first thing to do is get rid of the plastic tub and replace it with the resin part. Detail is crisper, and with the addition of a few of the P.E parts really does take the tub to the next level.
The seat is also more detailed with a moulded on seat and back cushion.

Well other then being a bit fiddly, the cockpit is pretty much easy to build.
I have put my scalpel in the pic so you can judge the size of the cockpit.
Next up is the resin MG131 mount, which the kit lacks.
Expect an update in a few days as work beckons .

As I have great interest in this kit, I am happy that you will show us a complete build together with reviewing all the AM. Thus far the kit looks very promising.

However, I read on Britmodeller that the PE IP doesn't fit so well in the fuselage halves and that the Eduard kit has little tolerance on errors. So your build will be a good 'second opinion'

Here is the Britmodeller story:

Hi Jelger,
I am glad your following along with my build, and it should be a fun and interesting journey with all the A.M I'm adding
I read that as well when I was having a quick look around the web about the kit.
I have two P.E ip's for the upper half, so one must fit, I hope .
I am hoping to get some more progress on this later today after I finish work.

Andy,
While not my preferred scale, I'll be following your build to its conclusion. As soon as I saw those fabric belts, I was hooked.

Thanks Rowan, I knew the cockpit was small in 1/72nd, but I was surprised by how small .
Hi Joel, the fabric belts are so easy to use, just lift off the backing sheet and glue into place with PVA glue. I have two sets of P.E belts for this kit, one with the kit and another with the resin cockpit set, both look nice, but the fabric ones are a lot easier to use, and I don't end up with parts of the belts stuck to tweezers, fingers, and wrong places with superglue .

Andy! I was just half an inch away from ordering the Royal Class boxing from Hannants the other day... I stuck with the tiny-scale Avias this time but following you makes me wonder if I didn't make a mistake anyway !

Hi Magnus,
Well the kit is well detailed even without all the Brassin bits, and with the Royal Class you get 4 of the 190's, plus you get a real piece of a Fw 190A-8/R2, and at £55 it is relatively cheap.

Well I finally got somewhere over the week.
I have added and built the Fw 190A-8 MG131 mount.
Item No - 672 084
Price - £10.99 (Hannants)

Unfortunately one of the barrels hasn't formed, so its a little on the short side.
The parts are well cast but the spars do have a little flash which needs removing.
Some of the P.E is tiny, but the whole thing goes together pretty well.

Next up was the inclusion of a set of Brassin exhaust stacks.
Item No - 672 085
Price - £2.75
These are a lot crisper then the kits parts, but you don't see a great deal of them once installed.

Once everything was built I added everything to one half of the fuselage. Its all a tight fit but dry fitting the parts several times it all does go in.

And the fuselage closed up.

Now the fuselage is sort of done (paint needs touching up in places), I can start on the wings, which includes the wheel bays.

Thanks Lucky.
Err none, and I did look just in case someone borrowed one .
Normal South American builds will resume soon, probably .
