Hi All
Having recently completed two Swallows (Ki-61-I Tei and Ki-61-II Kai), with another one in a larger scale in progress, I realized that the family wouldn’t be complete without Ki-100.

So here she is – launched some time ago (in June as far as I remember) and stalled due to decision to install the resin cockpit from Aires in. Unfortunately, it is not available in Poland. Then I have been waiting for the PE set from Eduard, which arrived at last two weeks ago.

The cockpit with Eduard's PE added. The color is H79 + dark grey wash from AK Interactive. Elements of the cockpit behind the pilot’s seat will be painted IJA Green.

The horizontal stabilizers are from QB – as you can see, the fit is quite poor. Also poor is the fit of the fuselage fairing where it is supposed to meet the wings… they don’t meet. This will need to be addressed as well.

I have also drilled the guns’ barrels – look acceptable to me.

Stay tuned, best regards

Pressing the fuselage fairing with carpenter clamp worked, it is almost perfect now.
But how oddly shallow Hasegawa made the wheel wells ...

Stay tuned, best regards

Looking good so far Hubert. I have noticed very shallow wheel wells on other Hasegawa kits too.

Thanks, Mates.

So, here we go: Tamiya's IJA Green (mixed with a drop of Dark Yellow to add some light here and there) over Vallejo's White Aluminium (Metal Color series, IMO very, very good).

Hubert,
An impressive build to date. Your faded paint on the upper surfaces really looks quite convincing. Looking forward to your next update.

Thanks, Richard
Otsu, you say... well, maybe next year?
My next project will be two parallel builds of Ki-43 and I still have nine other projects launched, would be good to have them finished.

And sure I will take a family photo when Ki-100 is finished, good idea.
Thanks for watching and comments

Hubert,
I'll 2nd what Richard said. Your paint scheme, weathering, and marking all are top flight. Exceeding well done.

Thanks for your nice comment, Joel.
Lot of work still to be done, weathering of the actual aircraft is very challenging - look at the profile on the cover page of Ki-61/Ki-100 monograph. Lot of chipping, fading colours... Will do my best

Hubert, great job on the Ki-100 thus far. Your finish is shaping up nicely. Those are such beautiful and powerful airplanes and I am looking forward to the finished project.

Best wishes,

Thanks for your nice comments, Mates

Slowly going forward.

Applied wash: on top light gray, to the bottom - dark gray. This is only the first step of weathering process, I'm going to have fun here with colors and effects.

Did also some work with the landing gear and wheel well covers.

Sorry for poor photos, something went wrong with them...

Nicely done with your washes. While they have added that look of an operation aircraft, by no means have you pushed it towards the point of "used and abused" but rather "well maintained" operational aircraft.

Slowly going forward with weathering. Added some pigments, scratches, oil leaks, in some places used different greens and brush to simulate repairs of the fuselage and wings - that part still needs some attention.

Hope you like it.

Thanks for your nice comments, Mates

Finally I can call this done: Kawasaki Ki-100 I-Koh, white “177” of the 2nd Chutai, 59 Sentai, Ashiya Kiusiu near Fukuoka, 1945.

That’s how it looked like in October of 1945:

This small aircraft has taken more time than I expected – mainly due to late deliveries of some aftermarket products that I considered a must with respect to what I wanted to get as a result.

So, what we have got here?

First of all, I couldn’t find any appropriate resin cockpit, therefore I used Eduard’s photoetched parts dedicated to this kit, in its interior as well as for the exterior of the model. Next are the wheel well covers, where I used a mix of photoetched and resin parts form QB. QB also produced the horizontal tail planes. The rest came out of the Hasegawa’s box.

Paints used here are Vallejo’s White Aluminium, Tamiya’s IJA Green, Gunze’s Dark Yellow and IJA Green inside the cockpit.

Markings have been sprayed with use of Montex and DIY masks.

Weathering is a mix of pigments and washes from MIG and AK Interactive, however most of the subtly dusty and faded effect simply VANISHED after a spray cote of flat clear from Gunze… next lesson learned. Didn’t correct this, as I just wanted to have this kit done at last.

Hope you like it anyway.

And now, to the photos:

Many thanks, Richard.

Hope to come back to both Ki-43s soon, now I'm concentrating on a large scale Rhodesian Spitfire (absolutely fell in love with it) and struggle to get done at least two or three other projects, to make more room in my workshop area.

Hubert,
A most impressive build. The final set of pictures really shows off your Ki-100's outstanding painting and weathering.

Looking forward to your next build.
