Well, I'm having mood for Bf 109's, so starting this very good model from Eduard-the Weekend edition. I have to wait new decals for the Zvezda bf 109F-2, in the meantime will build this plane.
The marking I choose is the Werner Schroer bird, the famous "Black Eight". It's one of the two markings provided in the kit, so quality decals expected here

.
Not very much AM will be used, only RB metal barrels for MG 17 and wings mounted FF. The main shortcoming of the kit is the absence of the radiators and tropical filter meshes, I will have to scratch them.

I like the finish on the "Black Eight". I'm looking forward to seeing how your model turns out.

Thanks!
The tropical filter is not available on the market as separate replacement, so I will have to scratch that mesh and the other ones for the coolers:

From what I have understood, this Weekend kit is retool of the older Profipack version, correcting some shape issues, and the detail is very, very good

I decided to put metal barrels only for the FF cannons on the wings, the MG's on the nose are OK. PVC supports for extra strength.

that is wrong. Weekend editions are just the plastic of the standard kit. BTW check the length of the Sandabscheider. IMHO it it too long...
all the best

Hi, Stephen
I mean retool for this particular Bf 109E-7, not all Eduard kits
![](../../modules/SquawkBox/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Sandabscheider-if this means the tropical filter, yes it's a bit long
![](../../modules/SquawkBox/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Proceeding with the cockpit. Basic detailing, I had leftover seat belts from Eduard PE set, so decided to put them instead the Superfabric ones.
RLM 02 is Gunze, drybrushing with Stainless Metal color.

Hi Venelin,
nice progress!!
Eduard did retool the canopy when the kit first came out as good old Standa Archmann (who was also in charge for the first Bf 109G-6 edition "hickup" 2014) made the E-4 canopy too small in width assuming the rear section would still be the same.
But believe me the Weekenders are only Profipacks without 4 decals options, masks, and PE...
all the best
Steffen
P.S. built that PP kit some years ago

Hi Venelin,
Nice progress on the E-7. As you note, Eduard has the filter sections on part 2 of their PE for the E-7, which is a bit mean. They also do not include Part 2 in their PE for either the Weekend or stand alone E4/E7 frets. I think that is a bit rough but I don't make the parts. Maybe somebody out there has an unwanted piece they could send you? The coffee filter is a good idea. How much are you going to trim off the trop filter? I ask as I am building an E-7 at the moment as well.

Eduard only offers a small PE fret (FE703), which I don't like and doesn't include many necessary details as the grills and is rather expensive for such small set. Set 8264 is discontinued and includes many more parts (you can see on their site) and was cheaper. Very strange decision from their part, I think
The tropical filter will be cut with about 2mm, but you have to align it to the middle recessed panel line on the cowl for more precise measurement. The coffee filter is very good for the grills and will do the same as with the radiator grills.

Also, I ordered Quickboost gunsights Revi 12 (48007), the one from the kit is molded as clear part and although convincing i think the resin gunsight will be better.

Hello Venelin,
the black eight really has a nice camo and Your Messerschmitt built gets along very nice? I will follow with interest as I have the 1/72 Tamiya one in my stash.

Dry fit, testing the alignment of the new instrument panel. I like how it turned out. Some levers left to put, before closing the cockpit.

You might want to consider toning down the white on those dials a bit. A coat of Tamiya Smoke is what I would use. Alternatively mix up a batch of clear flat, add a single drop of light grey paint.

Several levers on the instrument panel added and toning it down a bit.
The engine have to be cut in the front, so the cowl can be closed without problems. Also most of the details will be left over.

Forgot to mention that I've made from the same mesh those pads (or whatever is the name), I suppose it's an anti-slip or something

Hi Venelin,
nice progress on you Emil. I'm curious, do the Eduard folks provide stencils with this weekend kit? I have the E-1 Weekend here with no stencils at all. When I wrote to Eduard they told me that this is correct. So I have to use the remnants of my G-6 Profi Pack stencils ....

I accidently broke the tail wheel, but you have to install it before closing the fuselage. So I drilled two holes respectively and put a piece of plastic rod in the wheel.
Fitting as a whole is almost perfect, the only place which needs a filling is under the engine.
