The kit crops up quite often on e-Bay - and, looking at the history, quite a lot of the listings have ended unsold. That suggests people are over-pricing the kit, so you might get lucky if you contact a seller with a reasonable offer.

any reason why you can't contact the manufacturer and get replacement parts that way?

I did and Revell of Germany has not had parts for these kitsince 2014
