history

The MiG-15 was one of the biggest threats to Western air superiority of the Cold War. It was introduced in 1949, with a blistering fast top speed of 668 miles per hour(1075km/h). It is powered by the Klimov VK-1, a copy of the Rolls-Royce Nene engine. Much of the design was influenced by stolen German designs, such as the Ta-183. It shares a 35 degree wing sweep with the F-86(wonder where they got the idea?), it’s main competitor in the skies over Korea.

Trumeter's 1/32 MiG15 was a surprise when it burst onto the large-scale scene, but a very welcome one. This plane is definitely the largest in my collection, dwarfing my 1/48th scale Sabre. I like to display it with the tail off, showing off the Klimov jet engine. It’s painted with Tamiya rattle cans and hairy sticks, as I built this before I got my airbrush. The engine was first painted silver, and then I tried to make it look burnt using a diluted enamel mixture of gold, brown, red, and black. When you attach the tail to the fuselage, there is a significant gap, but as I display it tailless, it really isn’t an issue.

I would like to purchase a set of 1/32 Russian mechanics to build a diorama, with a mechanic working on the engine. Thoughts?
