Stunning Nige, thanks for taking it to Huddersfield it was a treat to see it in the flesh, and very deserving of a placing in the comp. I think that we should arrange a "Bulldogs" day out to the museum?

Thanks guys.
I will be presenting the model to the museum next week, and spending a couple of days exploring the old home of the Wolfpack while Im there.
I picked up a new base for it at the Huddersfield show which I think sets it off a lot better than the original one.

Bunny Comstock has seen the finished photos and I recieved an email this week passing on his thanks for building the "replica".
Now thats what I call " job satisfaction"

The end of a 4 month build and a very enjoyable research project.
Bunny Comstock's P47 has returned to Halesworth and is now resident in the 56FG display cabinet.

Im going to have to build myself another 1:48 P47 now, as Id got used to having this one around and all mine are 1:72.

Nige.

What a pleasure it must be to know that your hard work will be seen by all the visitors to the museum, and that Bunny is impressed as well.

Were the museum happy?

Your model looks great displayed like this! I think there could be no better place for it...

She looks mean and beautiful at the same time. The base is the icing on the cake. How did you get the custom plaque made?

Thanks everyone.

Andy..
Knowing that the P47 will be seen by visitors to the museum, and both members of the public and also veterans and their families certainly makes me feel very proud. The icing on the cake though has been the chance for Bunny Comstock to see photos of his old Thunderbolt. I emailed him photos of the model in the museum, and the model is also going to feature in the next issue of the museums newsletter, which goes out to many of the surviving veterans and their families.
The staff at the museum are pleased with their new exhibit too

Jean-Luc.
Thankyou,,I agree,,what better place for a model of a Halesworth P47 to be displayed than at Halesworth itself surrounded by 56FG memorabilia.

Thanks Anthony.
It was quite a mixture of emotions "giving the model away" after all the work I put into it, but it was specifically built for the museum, so that makes me feel better. The model was gifted by myself and isnt a commision build. Ive got to build another one soon though as its the only 1:48 model Ive built and theres a big empty space where it used to be
I'll be visiting the museum in the summer so I'll get to see it every now and again

Thanks Matt, and thanks for following the build throughout. I think you were one of the first to post. The base I picked up at a model show, and the plaque was made for me by a local company that specialise in trophy engraving etc. It wasnt exactly cheap but it was certainly worth having done as it sets the whole build off nicely.

Well that's really amazing - seeing your model near real WW2 memorabilia! I guess it can't be better for the modeller! That's a prove of real respect!

Respect, MANN!

PS. I also love those shaded panel lines!

Nigel I have to agree an excellent build and a very useful thread for tips as well.

One quick question on the IP do you take the kit decals and overlay them onto the IP individually or as one lump or do you paint the dials instead.

Thanks

Thanks Gary.
With the instrument panel first I painted it white. Then black overall and while still wet wiped over it with my thumb to leave the raised detail white.
After that I applied the kit decal as a whole piece.
Micro set/sol.
Add a couple of bits of colour and then dry brush.
Hope that answers your question

Well I must say I'm ready to join the "Lampie Fan Club". I think after following this build (and the P-47 SIG) I am ready to start a P-47 of my own. Thanks for the inspiration.

Wow, what an honor!

Of course, now that you are an honorary member, they can request that you do more models for them!

Congratulations,

I hope that makes you feel a bit better. I know how you must be feeling, I sometimes make models for veterans and it is the hardest thing to let them go.

Again well done on the achievement.

Just as long as they dont ask me to make a model of the 489BG B-24 Assembly ship which was based at Halesworth
