Hi Nigel,
I have occasionally had the same problem with the wash eating through the Klear. I would have binned the thing in anger if I had done all the work you have and that happened. I bet the air was blue!
Have you tried Promodeller Weathering Wash? It is fantastic and after trying it out on a couple of kits I will never go back to oil washes. It sticks to panel lines nicely, is totally inert so won't attack the Klear, and if you don't get the wash right it rinses off under the tap so you can try again.

Ah yes. The obligatory "something had to happen". Happened again. First the wing dihedral. Now this. I had a similar moment with my tank and had to repaint half the turret and all of the wheels right at the finish line. I'm not worried. It's certainly irritating but you'll fix it. No problem.

Yep,,the obligatory had to happen indeed!
About 8 hours into the fix now
Luckily,,I had found a few dot masks left over from the original masking sessions.
So,,about 15 at a time, Ive started remasking and spraying the lower wings again.
Almost down to the fourth engine nacelle now. The area around the star and bar had recieved more Klear than the other areas and isnt affected. It'll be done tonight.
Martin..
Funny you should mention Promodeller Wash..I ordered some earlier .
The ideal model to give it a go, and I definately dont want to be hoping an oil wash doesnt disolve the klear when I finally get to wash this again.
Back to it....................

The end of a long day, and the fix is finally complete.
Good job I had nothing else planned for today, and at least its kept me busy and taken my mind off the fact that the ****** boilers broken and Ive got no central heating until the plumber comes round tomorrow
So,,back to where I was a couple of days ago with the build, but still in there with a chance!

Thanks for the offer Eric!
I was only checking up on the "Belle" restoration a couple of days ago. Bassingbourne isnt that far from me, and I believe the old control tower is now a museum.
Good news is,,I got my Miracle Masks today,,Thanks Mal
Bad news is Im back at work tomorrow so it'll be a while before I get back to the bench.
Going to make a nice change doing circles after all the stripes in the build that is responsible for inspiring me to look for unusual paint schemes.
After this,,a couple of hundred circles using Miracle Masks should be easy
Nige
CRIKEY!!! They were smoking some big ones back then,eh?
Looks really well done and pleasing but this has 'altered state' written all over it!
Great job!

Nice recovery Nige.
I would have put it back in its box and tried something else before trying to recover it.

Great work, Nige. It most really be difficult to focus after all those dots - especially when having to do them twice
Looking forward to see more

Nigel:
Repairs look great. I have had that happen before. I switched to using lighter fluid (Naptha)as thinner for my washes and it has not happened since. I have not tried the pro modler washes yet, but they look interesting. I do like the staining effect you get with an oil based wash. Heres to no more issues

Well its certainly trying my patience, especially today, seems everytime I look at the thing something either breaks or falls off.
So for tonight its a case of put it in the box and walk away.
Practically finished though.
All I need to do is check the wash has been cleaned off properly and then matt varnish the main airframe. After that all thats left is to fit the last few clear parts and remove the masking.
Im going to be SO glad when this build is over, I really want to move onto something else now. Im really hoping the last bits of the build go without a hitch.
Oddly enough it looks a lot better in the photos than I feel it looks in "the plastic", its usually the other way round.

Funny how models look in pictures. Sometimes they look better in the pic. Other times you see flaws that you had no idea existed.
She certainly is a handsome beast. That first picture shows off the classic curves of a Flying Fortress quite well. One of my all time favorite looking planes.

Well here she is finished.
384 BG Assembly Ship 42-3441 "The Spotted Cow"
Im planning on displaying it on a mirrored base, when I can get hold of some self adhesive mirror.
Ive been wanting to build this for a couple of years, but the method of masking the circles had always eluded me, although Id tried quite a few ideas over the months to see how I could do it.
However.Mal came to rescue with his masks, and Id like to publicly thank Mal for making the dots for me and donating the other masks to this project.
I hope I did the masks justice Mal.
Heres a couple of finished photos.
And now,,I think Im going for a long lie down somewhere away from dots! Any contact details for therapists please PM me

Hi Nige
I havn't been able to look around much here on Aeroscale or do any modeling for quite a while. I just came across your thread here on the spotted cow. I see you are still having lots of fun with the odd paint schemes This one looks pretty cool and can't wait to see it done.
Also I have just checked out your thread for the P-47 you made for the museum. WOW!!!! Excellent build. You have turned into quite a modeler my friend!
I am sure hoping to get back into building and Aeroscale this year. Well... I have some more browsing and catching up to do so...
Good modeling and talk to you later
Wayne
UPDATE: I now see finished pics of your B-17 above my post. We must have been posting around the same time :-) At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it ;-)
The fortress looks great Nige. I bet you have nightmares about little blue dots after this one.

It's a wonderful model and you did that quick too.......
As a side note, do you make your own display boards?

I'm still enjoying your Halesworth P-47. And now you go and finish this. Slow down so I can take in all this great modeling. She certainly won't get lost on the ol' display shelf. So....many.....spots. Now take two of these and post me in the morning.
Another fantastic model. Of course.

Yet another wonderful model that I can't wait to see in the flesh. Thios has to take centre stage at Cosford, if you can make it It is bound to turn heads and get people over to the stand
Yes you did the masks justice can I capture the finished pics and put them on my web site please?

Thanks for the great feedback everyone!
It was certainly a lot of "fun" building this
Wayne.. good to see you posting again!. Its been a long time since Ive seen you around. Get building something!!
Alex... I pick up my bases from shows. In the state you see in the photo. You can then paint or stain them, add a polyfilla base etc.
Chris..mmm,,olive drab,,,sounds like a P47 colour!!
Matt..is 2 models in 6 months fast building?,,I'll gladly take the
Mal. Im pretty hopefull about Cosford!
By all means use the photos on your website, Im hoping to display it on a mirrored base, but use these photos for now and if the new ones are spectacularly better you can always change them on your site.
Time to have a look in the stash and see whats next..something normal I think!
Thanks again for all the kind comments everyone.

Hi Nige,
Really nice build, turned out excellent. Now, the big question, would you recommend the kit as my LHS has one, or is there a better alternative.
