Jean Luc: I noticed the star looking item in the wheel wells. Were they a buffer for the wheels not to bang the metal? I have not seen any photos of the wheel well on the P-36, and I do not remember seeing any in the P-40's wheel well.

The star shaped items are canvas covers it seems. Whether they were used on Pearl Harbor P-36s or not I don't know. I suppose they were used to protect the inside of the wheel bays... I don't remember having seen a real picture of these canvases
