Maybe so. I also found the C-2 Greyhound and E-2C Hawkeye that it may be. None of them are exactly what I'm thinking of, so I'm probably creating a composite aircraft in my head.

I think it's the tracker. S-2, then S-3 Viking replaced it.

AH-HA! Found it!! I found an old issue of FSM that had an article on it. It was the V-22 Osprey after all. So it looks like I'm doing an Osprey, Viking, or Intruder.

Tim not all aircraft in the Navies of the world are carrier capable, Look at the massive P3 orion in US and Japanesse sevrvice, also other countires yse as well. Another on is the C130, The british Nimrod, and the old P5N2 Neptune which also fits your description. Gee both questions answered with one reply, I'm getting good. stug

Keep practicing, Junior. The second part of the question was 'is the campaign for carrier aircraft only?'. All my choices are carrier based (dang!! a carrier based Flanker just got put on the list), but that was one of the things tossed about at first and the campaign description doesn't clearly say. I would assume that any Naval aircraft is fine since it isn't mentioned, but just wanna make sure since that was a restriction orginally proposed.
BTW, just because a plane doesn't land or take off on a carrier doesn't necessarily preclude it from being carrier capable. Our government has never exactly been known for doing things that make sense all the time. I can see some crazy beaurocrat saying a C-130 needs to be able to trap the third wire "just in case of an extreme emergency".

uummm Tim, We have landed a C-130 on a carrier!!!!!! Though it was a Trap. The crew removed the wieght interlocks from the landing gear so the the props could be reversed in the air. they brought her in realy slow full flap, and when she was over the deck they reversed the props and dropped her aroung the #3 wire and then taxi her over for a nice Cat launch. But it was just a test to say they could do it!!! STUG

Hey Stug......I saw the videos on the C130 landing on the carrier.....the landing was pretty cool....but they didn't use a cat to launch her.....she took off under her own power, started back at about the island....and was in the air about halfway fron the island to the bow....lol...just like the old days!!!

Sign me up, who do I report to for this little operation? I heard it is ok to submit more than one aircraft, I was thinking of maybe a helo and a fixed wing a/c to do. Will USMC aircraft also be included? So let me toss in the hat and count me in!

Hi everyone
Count me in. Like Holdfast I normally seem to end up building WW2 era stuff. Perhaps I can do the new Classic Airframes D.H. Sea Hornet - that should count shouldn't it? Otherwise it'll have to be a jet... sob! sob!
All the best
Rowan

The Sea Hornet (NF. 21) was produced up until 1951 so it barely makes it.

Gold wings are BEST, No lead wings in the NAVY!!!!!!!!!!!! Silver are for the Aif Force! Sorry but I have to defend my service branch!!! Yes a sea hornet is fine, Porky, but so is a sea vampire!!!! stug
Posted: Saturday, June 21, 2003 - 08:08 AM UTC
A Sea Vampire does sound rather sexy - where's Buffy? - but I've got a Sea Hornet waving at me from the shelf, and it would be SO rude to ignore it!
Looking forward to the campaign
Cheers

Well Rowan seeing that we have 2 1/2 months before we start our endevour in to the realm of Naval Aviation, a Sea Hornet could be completed in that time frame.... Then again our campaign is scheduled for a 3 month period so even the inexperienced or over worked model can complete the build. More than enough time for 2 kits if planned accordingly. Hope to see you finish kit STUG
