I tend to disagree re the soft detail in these kits. I think they are fine.

I have not been stimulated by KRudd yet, but I ordered all four kits anyway.

Yeah i know a lot will not agree with my interpretation on that one. I'm really only refering to the way the surface detail is done. Not the detail such as the engine and so on. For a WW1 subject Wingnuts have probably done it just right.

But i cannot help prefering the really sharp recessed detail that Eduard and Hasegawa use for example...very good for holding washes without wiping away- i use water colour washes. Has a lot to do with how i finish my models i suppose.
In comparison, i find all Chinese kits tend to use shallower rounded engraved detail. Luckily the Chinese mad riveter was kept away anyway.

Really, my point is that whilst these are definately the best W1 kits i've seen, just taking the plastic parts alone - i still think Roden and Eduard are just as good maybe even better for me in some respects. The advances in these models are in the rest of the package and the presentation.

Nicely done review Andrew! The softer detail may be in Wingnut's interpretation of who is going to be building these kits. Even today most manufacturers tend to over do details as they expect them to be covered in paint that is hand brushed. In other words by the average modeler. Wingnut is doing specialized kits and probably anticipate that their builders will be more experienced and will be using airbrushes. Just a guess.

it was a catastropic picture (above the shelf) failure that caused this
at the moment shes held together by her easy line rigging but all the struts are off and the lower wing spars are snapped
I'll give it a go as I have some spare loz decals for the wings

Wow, what a mess. I wonder if WNW has any sprues you could order? I know the kit is sold out, but; there may be some sprues. Dave at WNW is good about responding to emails.
I had a similar experience: I had just finished the 1/350 Titanic and placed it on the mantel under a nice picture of an ocean scene. About 0230 I was awakened by the sickening sound of stuff hitting the floor. Sure enough, the picture frame had come unglued, fell off the wall and in turn knocked the Titanic onto the floor. The irony of it all didn't escape me. I did manage to make field expedient repairs. A few years later the cat knocked it off the mantel and that was it. I feel your pain and frustration. I hope you can salvage it.

Time to break out the brass rod and microdrills me thinks, that and some feild repairs to the lozenge and a rerig will sort her out.

Joking aside (hopefully to make some light of the situation) it's a lot of work, but well worth the time looking at the standard of your build
