Hi folks, this is my 1st attempt at an aircraft for quite some time, so I'm asking those of you in the know for advise; I'm building the 1/72 eastern express Hansa Brandenburg W29-
-What paint color can I use for "linen" for the inside of the fuse?...
-What color should I use for the base color outside the fuse?...
-Whats a good color for the prop?...
...modelmaster, testors and tamiya are readily available at my LHS

Also, anyone whose built this kit, I'm looking for help;
- the box art shows the lozenge on the "wide stabilizer" but it looks as though the supplied lozenge decal is for the rounded one...can I still "fit" the lozenge on the wide stab that I want to use? It looks real close...

Hey Bob , I have never built the kit before so I'm not sure if the lozenge will fit the tailplane you want to use .

For the dope linen every one seems to have their favorite shade to use for this .
You can use Tamiya Buff , Gunze sail colour # H85 , Humbrol # 74 or pollyscale dope linen or mix your own shade . The out side of the fuselage is light bluegray (lightblue?) you can lighten or darken it as you see fit .

For the prop again this comes down to choice . Have the base cote a light wood and then do the lam/in a darher shade over cote with clear or you tint clear with brown or red or even have a few cotes of clear orange with a little smoke added .

Terri, I don't have "bluff", but I can get it! The official call for the outside is "humbrol medium grey"...but my "MM medium grey 1/2" should be close...the MM grey/violet looks like it'd be nice too...

I have MM "wood" and have tamiya clear orange and clear smoke...I have plenty of odd shades of darker brown that would streak on there nicely.....thanks alot for the input on the colors!!!

This will be my 1st plane in nearly 24 years...I'm trying to be a well rounded modeller - cars/trucks/armor/motorcycles/sci-fi...and now planes.

Bob , the windsock datafile is a ref book on the subject , covers the aircraft different versions , markings and colours etc, etc ....................... with 72 / 48 scale drawings
They are a very valuable tool for us stringbaggers . Same as over the front and cross and cockade .

Cooool...so they're like the Squadron books...I have quite a few of the WWII aircraft books, and one on the sopwith camel.
Anyone in the states sell these or is it just from across the pond?
-1st scanning of the stock list didn't yield anything on the hansa brandenburg W29{perhaps I missed it?!}, but I did see references on the other kits I have.

WWI kits in my stash;
-eastern express hansa bradnenburg W29 1/72
-rodne albatros DII 1/72
-mac lfg roland DVIb 1/72
-hobby craft DR1 1/28
-revell sopwith F1 camel 1/48

...got a boatload of WWII birds, but that's a different forum!

stringbaggers

"Stringbaggers"...is that a technical term for WWI aircraft modeller?

...oh, and while going thru the stash I did find I had an Italeria Ta 152 in 1/48! I forgot!

Yes Bob , they are like squadron but better . You can order them from Roll models . If you can't find the one on the W-29 see if they have the one on the W-12 both aircraft shared the same characteristic such as lozenge , fuselage color . Just that the W-12 has double wings and a shorter fuselage .

Stringbaggers is a term for us WW1 modelers , yes you are correct

Good start on you collection so far ......................................

Thanks, the WWII aircraft I have{1/72 - 1/48 -1/32} faaaaaaaaaar outweigh the WWI pieces.
I'll check out roll models and see what they have...and I do remember seeing one for the W12 model.

I started the W29 last night...inside of the fuse and the engine.
