I am actually looking to build the most modern Helo I can get out of this kit. I am patiently waiting to order the Cobra Resin parts that you suggested earlier in the forum. I am killing time with that Bradley you helped me with before

I know you are all over it Alex. The response was to Frank's post directly above mine from today. He was asking about the N as a Vietnam bird.

First off, if you are planning a Vietnam build, it is not accurate for a USMC UH-1N (or Army helo) for that era. The only service who used UH-1Ns in Vietnam was the USAF's 20th ASOS (Air Special Operations Squadron)"Green Hornets". The weapons set-up in the kit w/the dual miniguns and rocket pods is close to what the 20th ASOS used on their helos, but they used the smaller 7-shot rocket pods. Their scheme was a three-tone camo with white undersides as well.
20th ASOS UH-1N
The scheme is hard to see on the above UH-1N, but is the same as on this 20th ASOS UH-1P.
The base plate for the miniguns is too big in the kit. I would trim them about 1/16 of an inch all the way around to make them fit better.
Good luck.
Hi there,
So if my understanding is right, I could built a Viet dio using this chopper if the scene shows spec op.
Secondly, I would like to paint it olive drab. Is it possible?
Thanks again for those precious advices.

Yes and no.
Yes you could do the dio if it is of a USAF 20th SOS SpecOps unit in the three-tone SEA (South East Asia - dark green, medium green, and dark tan over white) scheme.
No, it would not be accurate in overall OD Green. Only the USAF 20th SOS used UH-1Ns in Vietnam in the above scheme.
20th SOS markings would be easy though. All they had was a hornet on both sides of the tailboom.
Here is a history of the 20th SOS with some more pics as well.

Hi there,
I am building the Dragon UH-1n Gunship model, but unfortunately I have lost the instructions
Could anybody please post the scanned instructions from the Dragon or equivalent Panda model??
I am not sure if I will be able to finish it properly, especially the decal section.
Thanks in advance
Alberto

Thank you very much!
I will post some photos when I am done, and might take some advice as to the weathering of the model. I have some ideas but I am sure not as good as what I saw in some pics in this site.
Cheers

Resurrection time!! I have just bought the Dragon UH-1N gunship not realising that the November is a little special. However it was only $10 and is still sealed in box and spurs are sealed in bags. I have found PE and brass barrels for the miniguns but am struggling to find anything else in the way of aftermarket parts. Would like to get hold of a FLIR pod to bring it into Gulf War specs. I know Cobra company do stuff but no one sells it. Any help or advice much appreciated

Cobra Company's originals were bought by Lone Star Models out of Texas. He doesn't seem to have any of the N sets available now, but keep looking as he rotates stuff as it is produced.

So my plan for my -1N is Desert Storm or Enduring Freedom or Gulf War II. I want to use the two tone grey that's why I selected these wars. After contacting Public relations they have said I can use the two tone grey for Desert Storm or anytime until now. My question is weapons and I'm no expert (mainly model armor). So will the M134D be a close enough option for the era and model? And how about the other side? Would the GAU 18 .50 be an option? Thanks for your patience!
