Hi all.

Quick question for the Japanese aircraft gurus out there, Hasegawa list the colour for the prop spinner and blades as Mr Color 131 in my Ki43-II Hayabusa, problem is no one in Australia seems to stock Mr Color paints. I have looked high and low for an equivalent in Gunze or Tamiya but can't seem to find one. Can anyone give me a good match from these two brands, or a Testor's Model Master mathc may have to do.

Regards
Warren

Hi Warren,
I checked all my conversion charts and didn't find any chart that would include Mr. Color.

Does it say what is the FS number or that paint?

Unfortunately no it doesn't Tuomas.. I would have a look in another kit if I had one but I only have two Japanese kits at the moment and neither of them give FS numbers.. In fact the Trumpeter kit doesn't give any direct brand colour references.

Warren,

The colour of the prop on the Ki-43 is a very light redish brown, Model Master list it in the Japanese colours as Brown Primmer, not many LHS's carry all Testers Model Master paints.

You may have to mix and match a few colours together.

Hope this helps.

If you can find Polly Scale they make a Japanese red brown color which is perfect for the props of said aircraft. Hope this helps. Russell

Warren,

Tamiya XF-64 "Red Brown" is a good substitute for the Gunze...

I use Model Master paints (Testors enamels), and have used "Rust" on some of my Japanese props. Not sure if it would pass muster with a contest judge, but it looks good to me.

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Warren,

I have also a Ki-43 II ("Manchoukuo Air Force") still on the pile and I always use "Redbrown N 22 M" from Agama for my Japs. That fits perfect I think (have a look on my new Ki-45). Though it might be difficult to get Agama colours in Australia. You might also try "Rust 83" from Revell.

Ciao
Torsten

This has just come up on Britmodeler and the consensus there is that Japanese propellers are actually chocolate brown and glossy, and shouldn't be reddish brown at all. Trouble is, I've not seen Mr Color 131 so I don't know which is closer to it.

I use Vallejo Model Colour and I paint my Japanese propellers chocolate brown (872). I then give it a gloss finish. It is also a good match for RAL 8017 camo paint on German Panzers. I went away from Tamiya paint as I did not have any success using it with a brush. Sprays well though!
