Hi all
I've managed to take some pictures of my 1/48 scale model of Adolf Galland's Bf109E-3 for the Battle of Britain campaign.

Everything's pretty much finished - I want to make the wheels a bit dustier and weather things a little more - but it's about time to draw a line under my first Armorama build. (I've actually injured my right arm, so I can't do much more to the model anyway!)

The paint scheme is a bit unusual. Galland apparently devised this all-grey mottle himself and nearly went down to "friendly fire"! Unsurprisingly, his famous "Mickey Mouse" E-4 was in much more standard finish..

Apologies to any armour modellers if the base is a bit amateurish - it's my first effort (of course I blame Holdfast for demanding the models have bases... only kidding Mal!) and I'll be having a look at the dioramas on Armorama to learn how to make a better job of things next time.
Any thought and comments much appreciated
All the best
Rowan

[quote]How is the paint scheme (rlm?)
The original colours were apparently mixed from "locally available" paints, so they're not to any RLM standard... I really can't claim they're accurate but they match my refences in terms of "tone" ie: greyscale...
I'm glad you like the oil-stains! As I did them I thought "Oh! Oh!" BIG mistake...!"
I'm sure the armour guys have got some tricks for sun-bleached wood and realistic grass...
Cheers for the kind words
Rowan

Your BF109 is pretty awesome. I love the detailing and color scheme. Neatly done, eye and attention to detail. Some good closeup pics of the more intricate work underneath.
I don't see anything wrong with the base either. I think it looks cool.. and the grass is very realistic. Don't underestimate yourself or your work. Its a really fine model you've built.

From an armor modeler (who likes his planes to have spinning things in front), I think your base looks great....not to mention the model!
I'd like to know how you made the wood hardstand, and is it plastic or real wood?

:-) Very well done Rowan, looks superb, congratulations on finishing the campaign. The base is very well done, looks very realistic. I need to know more about this colour scheme, I will be able to research it better when my Hurri causes her to make a forced landing, in Kent, along with all the other 109s and 110s

.
I suppose when you get the use of your arm back there'll be no stopping you. :-)

Cheers everyone
Thanks for all the kind words generally and encouragement over the base!
Greg - the wooden planks are sheet balsa sliced to match the pattern and length (approx) that I could see in a reference photo. I stained them with washes of thinned enamel to hopefully make them look a bit more like weathered wood...
Mal - There's NO WAY I'll let you examine my paint job that closely - I'm not confident enough about the accuracy! Best you'll get is the sight of my tail heading back to France while your poor old Hurri putters along a good 30mph slower... #:-)
Cheers again everyone
Rowan
