Hi Guys,
I have seen this splinter camo around from 21st Century Toys pre made 109 and was wondering if anybody could tell me where this unit was operating from and at what time relevent to the camouflage pattern? Thanks for any help as I am a steel head armour fan & know little about the Luftwaffe. Any help would be much appreciated:-)

Hi Sven
I think we'd need a bit more info as to which version of the Bf 109 it is to answer your question. Have you got a photo of the model or an item number?
All the best

Bf-109E-31/JG53 December 1939, pilot Obit Erich Mix (Gruppen Technischer Offizier).
Upper surfaces Black Green (70) with provisional Dark Green (71) 'splinter', lower surfaces Light Blue (65). Black/White Gruppen TO insignia.
Bf-109E-1 1/3/JG53 1939. Upper surfaces and spinner Black Green (70), fuselage sides large oversprays of Dark Green (71) and RLM Grey (02), lower surfaces Light Blue (65).
Bf109E-1 11/4/JG53, November 1939, pilot Hubert Kroeck (Staffelkapitan). Upper surfaces Black Green (70) and Dark Green (71) 'splinter', lower surfaces Light Blue (65). Black Green (70) spinner
Some Staffel leaders machines were given an uneven application of mottle to the fuselage sides but did not completely obliterate the original splinter scheme on the top decking. The yellow nose had a broad red stripe common with aircraft flown by the various Staffel-Kapitane of this Geschwader (JG53). Individual aircraft number and vertical III Gruppe symbol were black in colour appropriate to an 8 Steffel machine.
Hope this helps you.
Paint numbers are Airfix, cross reference to your own desired paint choice.
Good luck with your build
Cheers
