Thanks folks. The oils were still drying this morning, but they were almost dry. So I gave them a clear varnish. That worked out well. The surface is a little uneven, but looks great. I am going to let the clear lacquer dry overnight and give it a little light sanding. Until then, I need to figure out which scheme I am going to do. I finished the intake on the engine. And I also did some test fitting. Everything is sliding together as they were intended to do. This is a really well engineered kit.

My bird is up on its feet. I planned on shooting some pictures, but then discovered I was totally lacking motivation.

Has anybody out there noticed how many modelers are being drawn into our little genre by these Wingnut kits? I have seen a few people that have stated they were attracted to WWI Aircraft by these kits, especially the LVG. I know my enthusiasm has been enhanced over the last few months.

Looking good Captain. I'm waiting for the Albatros D.V but I may have to dive in before it arrives.

I have the wing slotted in place, and it is sitting on the shelf. I am letting some touch up paint spots dry for the next few days. I will try to get some pictures at first light, or maybe a few hours afterward.

Like the update photo's, the wood effect is particularly effective.
Keep thinking I ought to do more with the engine, the effect on yours is very noticeable.

Some more pictures

The wings are slotted in place in these photos. Since these pictures, I have given the fuselage a shot of semi gloss to help reduce the decal shine. They look real good now. I also glued the bottom wings into place. I have been working on turnbuckles.

Thanks. The wood grain is not really photographing well. It looks a bit darker and browner than it really is. But I do like how it came out.

Yes they are still in business. I got some decals from them a few weeks ago. From the time I placed my order to the time the decals were in my box was about 4-5 days.

I had my B-17 out for the mighty eighth campaign yesterday, while glue was drying. I really need to get it going since it is my campaign.

It is really coming along. It is nice to see these kits in progress and the comments. One of the guys in the club I belong to, Twin Cities Aero Historians, (Shameless plug) is building one, but I have yet to see it. Your photo's and comments are appreciated and noteworthy.

Terri, thanks. Have you gotten one of these kits yet? I am guessing you are waiting for that Pfalz thingy to come out.

Mark, I think plugs are encouraged. I was over on the other site and found a fraternity brother I haven't seen for 28 years. You should get your club friends to sign up and join in the fun. Personally, I think this is the best kit I have ever had. The other Wingnut kits are great, but the LVG is really something special.

There are a few of my buddies from the TCAH luking on here. I am going to bring it up at the next meeting as there is a renewed interest in WWI subjects, not to mention the plethora of other genre's on this forum.

Happy Thanksgiving to everybody out there.

Thanksgiving is the day we consider all our blessings and give thanks for all the wonderful things in our lives. Of course, family is the greatest blessing of all. I want everybody out there to know I consider you all to be my second family, and good friends. Tonight, I will say a prayer for each of you, wishing good health, prosperity, and all the happiness you and your family desire.

I finished the wing rigging this morning. All I have left is the landing gear rigging. TEDIOUS job to say the least. But it came out pretty good. I took pictures but I don't have time to post them until much later. Time to go eat good food.

Beautiful job done on the rigging Carl !

However , the fit of the cowl seems to be off . Is this a trouble area with the kit ?

It is not really attached yet. It is off a little, but I think that is because of all the extra stuff on the engine. Shouldn't be hard to correct.
