If you read my update on the roden 1:72 Fokker E.V, you know I am working again, so now I have less time and more on my plate than ever, so I think this would be a great time to brush a bunch of it aside to hold up my enlistment in the Fokker V Camel campaign. I had other ideas, wanting to do a camel, but being unexperienced with rigging, I will save that for later. So i pulled the eduard weekend Dr.I out of the stash, and will be using the kit decals and building Hans Weiss's plane. I was not up on things when I bought the kit a couple months ago, so I had to swallow my pride and separately order up the Dr.I etch set, which came in at the same time as some mister kit paints. All is not well in Oz, as upon washing the sprues I found the underside piece with the lacing is partially free from the sprue and the lacing is damaged, so I will be ordering up some etch lacing. But anyway I plan kick off for this weekend.

Hi Mike !

Looking forward to your build . It's a great kit and Stephen's thread is a great aid towards the construction of it .

Thanks for the link and the encouragement. Well it is sunday... and the hangover is not killing me so I think I may actually get started. Hopefully get the interior parts cleaned up and primed and start on some wood.

So here I am 2 weeks later and progress has been lacking. but with the deadline looming, I feel the pressure and momentum is quickly gaining.(just as i planned all along) As I mentioned i would 2 weeks ago, I got the major components cleaned up and primed. Over the days since I have sprayed the linen interior pieces with misterkit German CDL, and then used the fokker green to spray the frame work and upper foward fuselage. over this past week end I got the wood panels in order, referencing Terri's excellent "Wood Grain For Dummies"(the last word definitely screams my name) i had mixed feeling on my results till I brushed on the tamiya smoke/clear orange mix. That really brought it to life and I feel that maybe a key component in my further experiments with wood. Tomorrow I hope to get an oil wash on the interior linen to add some life and shading. The maybe attach the frame work and definitely finish up on the control column so it can be painted, it will be needed soon. i also got a hold of the eduard PE WWI stitching to replaced my chewed kit piece. I am impressed, and for a measly $10 there is enough to do alot of work on a couple aircraft. I was bummed the kit piece was dorked up, but now I am glad it went the way it did, I think this will look mo' better. To the pics.

Okay well so much for deadlines. Life kinda got in the way here (in a good way at least) but this build has been looming in the back of my mind. So i decided to pick it back up and get started again, with my first push being to finish up the cockpit. I am rather pleased with the results. I see some room for improvement, but I am pretty happy with it as it did challenge my abilities (and my patience) and turned out respectable. My additions to the kit were some bracing wires made from stretched sprue as were all the control cables, even the ones for the ailerons that you cant really see, though I thought Id be able to. I also used some really fine stretched sprue to simulate the cables that ran from the control column to the MGs. I also made a gauge and air pump from scratch and some PE parts. Not sure how factual they maybe, I referenced a couple builds here and the Fokker Vs Camel book from Osprey. In the next week I need to do some massaging and dry fitting and mate these halves up, the the ball should roll off its flat spot and maybe carry on, snails pace or not.

Looking very nice Mike, I like it.

Don't feel bad about missing the deadline, I'm a proffesional at it ask Terri. My DRI is 90% done but I fell at the final fence

I look forward to seeing the result of yours

Nice to see you back on this build Mike ! It's shaping up very nicely so far .

Deadline ..... what the hell is that ? No worries Mike . There has been a few campaigns which I sizned up far , but never got the kit out of the box to start . So don't feel so bad . I'm sure I will have more in my future .

"....the arena is empty, except for one man. Still driving and striving as fast as he can..."

At least thats the lyric from Cake that comes to mind about now. Though Im sure I cant claim to be the only guy/gal still pluggin away on a project from this campaign past. And im not so sure about the "..as fast as he can" part either. But anyway here are some progress shots. I closed up the fuselage. Spent some time disappearing the seams, got her primed and a base coat of misterkit german CDL laid down. The engine is together and in primer. Ive been reading and rereading jackflashes article on streaking and have been mulling over my options as far as to what green/brown color to use. IIRC the report from the downing of Weiss, his triplane was described as green and white. So im leaning to the greener side of the spectrum. Decisions decisions.
