Hi all,

Here are some pictures of Tamiya's new 1:32 scale Spitfire Mk.IX. The model was built out of the box except for the use of Mal's Miracle Masks for the roundels, code letters, fin flash and serial numbers...











The model will be featured in the next issue of Tamiya Mag France so I can't say much more than this: it's a great kit!

Wow! That's a gorgeous build of what is apparently an outstanding kit. One of the most "real-looking" models I've seen in a while. SWMBO has been trying to feel me out for Xmas gift ideas, and although this isn't my normal scale, I think you just gave me a thought.

I was going to write exactly what Automaton said: this is one of the most realistic looking models I have seen. The paint wear around the panels is superb. I hope there is a feature coming describing some hints for achieving this greatness, Jean-Luc

I usually don't click on Spitfire or Mustang threads because in the last 5 years of being on Aeroscale I've seen thousands of beautiful examples of each. This one however stands out from all the rest. What a realistic model!
Knowing you Jean-Luc, you probably spent a total of 2 hours from start to finish building this one. It looks like at least a one hundred hour build.

That is one good looking Spit there, friend. All over excellent build. The color variations in the paint around the access panels really stand out in a noticable yet not overdone sort of way.

Fantastic work as usual!

I too love the weathering around the access panels, but the subtle shading and highlighting on the instrument panel is also a treat to behold.

It's such a shame you couldn't share this with us as you were building it - it would have been the "scoop of all scoops"! You must have been itching to let the cat out of the bag!

Yes, that was indeed the case all the time... oh well...

I must also say a special thank you to Mal for cutting the masks so fast. Without him the result wouldn't have been the same. The masks really help to preserve all that fine detail work made by Tamiya. In 1:32 scale it really makes sense to use them in my opinion.

Yes, terrific job. I agree with everyone else about the roundels. I've always like painted on markings instead of decals because decals look like decals.

Incredible....so many things to love.....but for me I like the oil streaks underneath the best. Such a prominent feature on real Spits, so rarely seen on models

Wow, fantastic Sir! Since I'll never see a copy of Tamiya France, would you be able to explain briefly your technique of using your masks for the roundels, for example, what order did you do the fuselage roundel colours?

I have used my own mix of Tamiya paints (blue and red in which I have added some black). I hope that the roundel colors of the model don't look too bad...
