I feel your loss Hermon . A very sad thing to have happened . They can be rebuilt in time and if you need parts I'm sure the guy's will be happy to raid the spare box to give you hand . Or maybe even donate a kit your way to help ease the pain .

Few years ago I had a nasty mishap brought on by the cat when he jump up on a shelf knocking it down taking my WW2 collection with it . 7 models destoryed now resting in box in the cloest waiting to be rebuild or used for parts in up coming builds .

Keep your chin up and 2010 will be a better year !

Oh that's a bad day in Plastic Land. You now have a legimate reason to buy more models now and stay up late.

Reminds me of the time when I was a bartender and the restuarant overloaded some glass shelves with liquour bottles. I told them that the shelf would break and when it started to crack (I could hear it) I moved to the other end of the bar and waited. Seven shelves came down with about 150 bottles of booze. Got fired too because I said "I told you the shelves were overloaded".

The best part of rebuilding a collection is that you know where the problems are with the kit and how to work faster.

And if the mood strikes you to relive your childhood (like it would me) doesn't NC sell fireworks? Happy New Years!

Oh man, Hermon - I am so sorry. It's any builders worse nightmare. It's even worse when the losses are your beautiful builds. Those are true gems at the bottom of that case.

I certainly hope 2010 brings you much better luck. If you are going to re-build, and need anything, please let us know. I'm sure everyone here, including myself, will try and help.

Cheers,
Mike

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My heart is sinking just looking at the pics.

Go buy yourself a Tamiya 1/32 Spit, you deserve it. It won't replace all that lost work, but it might cheer you up

WOW! As bad as my situation is, it's nice to have the kind words and support of so many great people. I told Mike (wingman) a while ago that the worst part is the time spent building all those kits, many of them were airplanes that I worked on with both my sons. On the other hand, I still have my family and the kits can be replaced eventually.
As Tim (Tango-India-Mike) said, there are many, many other people out there with far more serious disasters in their lives so I consider myself lucky.

Thanks again for all the kind words and support. It's GREAT to have a place like Aeroscale with so many like minded, careing, and helpfull people to share the good and the bad with. I appreciate everyone taking the time to chime in on this thread. It really means a lot.

Thanks,
Hermon

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if many people had cried out- and were silenced...)

Man, that really sucks! I'm very glad to hear your positive response. maybe your sons will help you repair some of these beauties- that would be a phoenix rising from these sorrowful ashes indeed. Well, at least you've got plenty of room for new builds...

Cheers-

Ouch...

It happened, start repairing.
I am sure many can be salvaged.
Gather all the bits, sort them into separate containers, and find some gel cryo adhesive.
Blu-tac is great for holding bits in place while the cement cures.
And a bit of dry-brushing.
I bet most will be looking just fine 2 weeks hence.

I did the same thing about 6 months ago. I was lucky that I only destroyed the bottom shelf containing about 6 aircraft.

I feel your pain. My wife was unhappy when she saw your destroyed Speed Campaign Entry. She loved that one.

Hi Hermon;
That situation is really a bummer--I can only imagine the feeling you had the instant you realized the shelf was falling. I have to agree with some of the other posters, though--if I were in your place, I wouldn't throw them out. I'd box them up and let some time pass for reflection. Sometimes it can be fun to re-do an old build and a lot of those would probably be prime candidates.

Regards;

Ugh. Hermon, that's just...rough. I feel for you, I really do.

2009 was a pretty miserable year for a lot of people I know, so I'm hoping it turns around in '10. If I have any good luck coming my way, I'll send some along, so you can get those salvageable birds back on the flight line.

I know this is probably a very long shot, but any chance your homeowners insurance would cover any of the replacement costs? Even a few dollars might help the rebuild go easier.
