Some great news! The wound check went without a hitch this morning and the physio so was impressed with Sam's mobility on crutches that they are releasing her at 1500hrs (GMT) so hopefully by the weekend she'll have at least a tray with a few essential tools on her lap.

Hi Allen,

That's great news indeed! How long will it take before she can walk again and go to work? Until then I suppose it will be unlimited time at the workbench!

All the best,

She's been signed off work for 6 weeks but she be having numerous outpatient appointment in that time so we'll have to wait and see.

I remember a conversation with Sam on the subject of horses at Telford... I am happy those animals exist since it makes skydiving, gliding and downhill bicycle racing seem perfectly sane and safe!

Good luck with the leg (and the horses ) and take care!

I wish you a speedy recovery. I know you must be in a great deal of physical pain. From somebody who has been there, use the morphine pump.

What could the arrow mean?

Usually that arrow means "This Way Up" . . . . Hmmm, best check that they pinned the correct leg there mate !!

Well that is a kinda clunky looking oleo strut support isn't it? Tried to visualize bumping that against a table leg or snagging a towel on it.................................I won't do that again.
Over here in Obamaworld, Marking limbs up pre-op has been done for quite a while. AND IT STILL gets botched up rather often! Marking wrong limb, reading X-ray backwards, marking correct limb, prepping wrong one anyway. Sad,really.
When I had my right hip replaced,my left one was only 90 days old. Medical stuff hanging off right side, equipment clustered on right side, etc. Morning after right side surgery, A.M. nurse prances in all cheery, announces she wants to check and possibly change dressing on wound. She then proceeds to my LEFT side, throws back the sheet, and views a 90 day old,12" long rip(healing nicely then, thankyou) and her eyes just get huge, glossy, and frozen.
She slowly turns her head to look at me and looking back at her I calmly state,"Smoked a little Kryptonite last night."
It was a fun 5 day stay.
Cheers for medical miracle minerals,
Rick

Just to let you all know the stitches are out and leg is now onto day two of weeping the cage is still attached they think after 6 weeks it might be able to come off and then I can go into a pot. Ankle is swelling quite badly but hoping that will go down when I can start moving my ankle again

Urgk! I done my wrist and arm coming off a m/c about 15 years ago. Similar set up.
I remember thinking I'd never move the wrist again. The phyiso is crucial.
I recovered about 90% of the movement which is pretty amazing considering the mess
I made of it. Just do all the exercises they tell you.

God bless.

I know that we all love to see "progress pics", but in this case I think we can be satisfied with the final product !!

Glad to see Sam home, and I hope the recovery goes fast and smooth, unlike most of my kits usually do !

Im back with an update and new pics

Well the consultant at hospital we saw last week announced the monstrosity might have to be on for an extra 4 -6 weeks. What concerns me is we didn't get to see the up to date x-rays and all he said was they were fine I was then told if I had any questions I would have to ask next week grrrrrrr I do have some ankle movement though

I would kill to be able to sleep on my side or front again its driving me nuts only being able to sleep flat on my back

and updated pics stitches have been removed and Im finally allowed to get the thing wet so I can have proper showers again (still a pain to do though)

Hiya Sam. This must be such a frustrating time for you, but I'm glad the leg is going relatively well. It will be great to see you back at the bench properly when the time is right.

Cheers, D

Good to hear you've got some movement back already. That's a really good sign.
Will they let you keep the hardware? Looks like it would make an excellent jig.

Best of luck with the recovery.

Get well soon, Sam and hang in there Allen! Sorry to hear and see this happened! And yes, do all the exercises the Physical Therapist tells you to do!!!

I understand. My wife broke her right ankle 3 years ago. However, she didn't need all the hardware you have. of course, not to be outdone, I tore my left Achilles 2 weeks later. So, we both had boots on for several weeks. Never a dull moment...

Thinking of you both,

Tom

Hi Sam,

Wow, have I been out of touch!

I look forward to your telling us that the leg is healed completely and that you are back in action!

Speaking from experience of breaking my tibia 8 years ago, certainly do follow your therapist's exercise regiment. You may not like it now, but you'll be glad you did years from now!

Quick recovery!
