Hi everyone,
For this thread I'll be building the Heinkel He-111Z (Zwilling) in 1:48 using two Monogram He-111 kits and the Cutting Edge He-111Z conversion along with several detail sets for the interior and exterior. This build will be for the "Twin Boom" campaign currently going on in the Campaign section. This will be my largest build undertaking to date and any and all comments are very welcomed.

Hi Mark
Wow! This should be a build worth watching!

I wonder if we have a big enough Frontpage to fit the finished beast on!
All the best

We can cut it in two halves if it doesn't fit...
Jokes aside, this will be a great build thread for sure!

Thanks guys, it'll be fun for sure. Let me ask your opinions. I'm thinking of making the kit an He-111Z-2 which was conceived to carry four Henschel Hs 293 anti-shipping missles and construct a diorama around that theme. As far as I know this was never carried out operationally but was only a planned use of the 111Z. Anyone have more info on the He-111Z-2?

One source I have says that they were comprised of two H-10's or H-11's mated together. The Squadron/Falcon main canopies are just what you need for those- also check the gondola and dorsal turrets. You'll need the wide-blade wooden props- do they come with the CE set? The exhausts wouldn't be the type provided in the kit- check photos. This is an awesome undertaking- I salute you!

G'day Mark. As I said in the Boom Boom thread, best of luck with this build, it promises to be spectacular in many ways !!
Rowan, I've just gone out and bought a wide-screen monitor specifically for this thread, so that it CAN fit
Cheers, D

Thanks guys, we'll make 'er fit somehow.
I've spent the last few days cutting and cleaning up the resin parts from the Cutting edge set. Here is the center wing......

I used a spare Kit engine for some test fitting. Looks like it will be a little work around the engine to blend it in..........

And here are the replacement 'fluted' exhausts, props and spinner.........

As far as the kits go I'll have to fill in around the wing roots because you will be able to see into the fuselage here from the gunners position. Does anyone out there have any pictures of the sides of the interior fuselage? I have several books on the 111 but none have head on shots of the fuselage interior sides.

I'll be starting the kits by detailing the interior and cockpits. Any detail shots are welcomed.

I got around to dealing with the fuselage interior wing roots. I scrapped off the detail where the styrene sheet inserts will go. The bottom fuselage is ready for the insert, you can see the top fuselage has not been modified yet.

And here are the inserts on all fuselage halves.................

Thanks Vance and Guy. I'm looking forward to the challenge. It's been a while since I've built a WW2 Luftwaffe subject.

Very interesting project! I really should spend more time on this forum
IIRC The Cutting Edge closed down last year, or have I got the wrong company in mind?

Certainly an ambitious project but looking good so far Mark.
Rudi - Yes you are correct Cutting Edge was part of Meteor Productions that closed down last year. They also were the firm that produced Yellowhammer Decals, PYN-UP Decals and some other brands that I can't recall at the moment.

Thanks everyone, here is a little progress. I puttied and sanded smooth the inserts on all 4 fuselage halves.................

I'm still going through my references for the fuselage interior. Next I'll start on the floor and sides.
