Finally got around to doing another Eduard Bf110, this time a long tail "D" in the markings as used in Iraq. There's a lot of speculation as to the colours of the Bf110D's in Iraq and you see them often finished in RLM 74/75/76. But from the pics i think they were still in RLM 02/71/65. I doubt that they were overpainted in greys at all. Looking at some pics it seems like the darkest colour is very dark with a strong contrast to the second top colour, that seems to fit RLM 02/71 to me. I used a slightly darker RLM 02 to overpaint the German markings, it may have been RLM 79 but once again in pics it looks the same as the lighter top colour.
Of course it's all just speculation on B&W photo's, who really knows. Anyone that thinks different, proove it! It's quite possible that there were even a mix of schemes in Iraq anyway, especially the newer Bf110E's.
On the kit itself, it seems to me that Eduard slightly retooled the wings to make a better top nacelle fit. There are now small "nubs" moulded to the wings to help locate the engine nacelles without a step. I'm sure that it wasn't like that on the first one i built a few years ago.
Is the new Dragon/Cyber Hobby kit better? I don' know. But from a quick look at the Dragon kit, i still prefer the Eduard surface detail treatment. In other areas the Dragon kit may now have the advantage, but i haven't built one.
All paints Gunze...the only choice for RLM colours! Still need to finish the model when i get to the hobby store and buy some resin MG barrels...i broke off the kit ones and lost them.

Hi Andrew
That is superb! I'm building the Dragon Bf 110D now and may well go for their version of basically the same scheme - I'll be delighted if it turns out half as well as you've done the Eduard kit!
All the best
