The new Kinetic Prowler is my next full project, I’ll be using photo-etch, resin (my own molded parts) and aftermarket decals. Not sure if I’m going to do a Navy or Marine bird but I know for sure I won’t be using the kits decals.
Here are a few in box shots.
So far the choices of markings,
Marines…VAQ-129 Vikings or VMAQ-2 Death Jesters.
Navy…VAQ-136 Gauntlets, VAQ-136 (large colorful tail) VAQ-136 (red & white tail) and lastly VAQ-130 Zappers.
I’m leaning towards these here two…

I’ll post pretty much of everything and changes as I go along.
Happy Modeling,
Joe

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that it has the folded wing option. I tried putting in a Black Box resin pit in her but there were some fit issues and gapping. Going to have to look into it some more.

A little bit of progress. Have all the parts removed and sanded of the spurs. I ran into some fit problems right out the gate. At the wing root you will need to scrape and sand to fit wing against fuselage.
In the blue shaded area shows the area need scraping and sanding. Just be sure not to overdue it and check often.
Some gapping around the rear engine exhaust .
Some reference and decals.
I also started a Intruder seen here.

Some! looks more like a library and a decal factory

Joe keep up the good work, I'll follow this for when I get around to build mine. Like you I have also gone for AM decals, nothing wrong with the kit ones but just don't like the scheme.
Regarding the Revell EA-6A, does it come with a normal tail to make an Intruder or will you need to modifiy the kit part?

Lust is one of the major sins.......so I won't be following this thread.
When you're finished with your library send it my way.

Here is some progress photos. I went with the kit cockpit instead of using the Aries resin pit. I wanted to see how well the kit pit would turn out with some TLC. For the seats I used masking tape, wire and lead foil, while the RBF flags were made from paper colored with a red marker and dry transfers. Other than that the pit was painted and dry brushed.
I also added in the missing detail on the wings face. Looking at the first photo you see it plain and flat, in the second you see where the flaps and slats are. I’ll also will add in more detail to the folding mechanism.
Happy Modeling,
Joe

Dude if I could make cockpits look like that I'd never mess with resin tubs again. Are the actual seat cushons kit or did you use something to replicate the fabric? Seriously cool start man. I'm diggin' this build all the way.

My reference show this detail missing, also they look thick. So I sanded of the section including the V- shaped oil deflector. I rescribed the lines in for the (EEP) extensible Equipment platform.
I also sanded of the slim lights as they to are thick, I’ll replace them with extra thin plastic and decals.
I made a set of hard FOD covers but decided to go with the soft covers following my reference for this Zappers bird.
I added in the refueling receptacle into the intake.
Fuselage glued together.
More to follow.
Happy Modeling,
Joe

Looking great Joe! The pit looks like a million bucks as does that refueling fitting. Is that scratch or from the Verlinden set?

Man, I'm gonna have to start buying some real walkaround books for my jet builds. I never realized I was missing so many little details. That refueling inlet is a cool touch. Cockpit looks even better sitting in the fuselage. I hope this thread isn't burried when I get around to building my Prowler.

This is looking very nice so far. I've been eyeing the new Kinetics kits since they've been released, and your build log is very helpful in making my final verdict.

Thanks Guys
Update time…
Parts C11 are the oil drain tubes (6 total), they are to thick and large. I replaced them using Evergreen round rod. There are even smaller ones in between the group of four and the front two, they are straight tubes. I haven’t added them in yet.
I added on some small details to the landing gear struts, levers, pistons, nuts & bolts and lines made from stretched sprue. Kind of hard to tell.
More to come in the next day!
Happy Modeling,
Joe

Over the weekend (crappy weather) I was able to back working on the Prowler. I started out by painting it in Model Masters 4761, 4762, 4746 and 4765. Once the paints dried I glossed coated, decaled, oil wash and a dull coat. I then mixed up some Tamiyas paints thinned heavily and dusted over in spots to get the bleached out look. Finally I scrubbed on some black pastel powder. I just need to add a wee bit of weathering to finalize it.
The decals are from CAM #48-119 VAQ-130 Zappers. I started of with the dragon decals first, this set is for the Monogram Prowler and was worried about the fit. I used Micro Sol to help snuggle them over the curves and bumps, everything else went on without problems.
Happy Modeling,
Joe
