Here is the #5 machine it is an OAW with a heavily overpainted fuselage and solid coloured tail unit and a darker coloured border. Note the "repaired center section with rib tapes lt. blue tapes.

Here is the #6 machine and it is another OAW type with an overpainted fuselage (from rear of cockpit to tail. ) And the darker border is present.

Here is the #7 machine and it is an Albatros built type with a two coloured "Sash" in the Hollernzoren war ribbon colours of Black & white around the fuselage a solid coloured tail unit with the darker border is present.

Now to continue this build. Some of you may remember our Royal kit 3 man GB build from April 22, 2006. It involved the indominable Jean-Luc Formery (TedMamere) and the indefatigable Mal Mayfield (Holdfast). Mal and Jean Luc forwarded their left over decals after their builds were completed. The Fokker Schwerin sets came from Mal and will be used with this build.

Lesson: never throw away decals. Someone can always use them!

Rather than use the plastic struts in the spares box I am going with all brass "STRUTZ" from Aeroclub.

Now for some brass landing gear struts, spare wing axle and wheels, rigging and a prop. Maybe a few odd decals for stencils, werke numbers, . .







Note the different forms of the Balken Crosses. During May - July there were about 3 different alterations ordered by the High Command. Some aircraft didn't get it all changed over night. More later.

She is really turning out beautifully – those brass struts look the business – how did you shape the "groves" and bends?

My variable speed Dremel motor tool on the lowest rpm does the trick. I use a compound cutting wheel to cut the grooves and smooth edges.

Now to the finish off this build. I have to finish the rigging, propeller, minor fittings, hand holds and pilot's step. Now while I am busy at my bench.

Okay , there is no brain power this morning at all to pic up on any kind of hints at all . Not enough coffee in my systeme yet !

I like the decal streaking, hopefully they do it in 1/32nd scale as well. As to what it is that identifies it as a Jasta 30 A/C? Could it be the red and white tail, or the red and blue nose. Thanks for sharing your skills and this build, it is neat.

Thanks Terri and Mark! Relating to the black and white image note the vertical fin is a solid colour not streaked as was the Schwerin factory practice on the early production Fok. D.VII. Its overpainted a solid colour.

With only two Jastas at Phalempin aerdrome and the only one of the two using a solid coloured tail (with a black border ) was Jasta 30. By the way I hear that there is to be a monograph published in Germany concerning a series of Jastas from WWI. The first is to be about Jasta 30.

The photo shows D. 247/17 on 23.5.18 I based my build on what this machine might look like a couple weeks later. The fuselage and rudder crosses have been altered to the June 1918 directive while the top wing still matches the May 1918 directive and the lower wings match the versions that were on the airframe when it left the factory in late April 1918. It was first assigned to Jasta 28w and then was sent to Jasta 30 for their familiarization of the type. My version has the yellow of the Jasta 28w overpainted with the orange we know Jasta 30 used.

The Flugzeugfarbenstoff (lozenge) wing camouflage decals are 4 colour. Microsculpt.

The streaked camouflage fuselage decal is from
Gunsight Graphics. (Note as of 2011 they are OOB).

The spare decals came from the Eduard Fokker D.VII Royal ( #R0002) & Combo (# 8133) kits. Thanks again to Mal Mayfield for sending over his leftover decals from the Royal build.

The wings were ex-Jager. The fuselage, tail unit, gauge faces and some interior components were Eduard. The struts were from Aeroclub's extruded brass "STRUTZ" set. The wing axle and wheels were DML / Dragon items. The gun breeches were Roden with PE fretted gun jackets. The engine was an Eduard generic 6 cylinder with Roden details to note a late model Mercedes 180hp D.IIIaü. Control horns were from Eduard's aftermarket PE sets.

Beautiful job, Stephen! Makes me want to do a streaky D.VII, also. Why don't you post her on the 'drome. I'm sure a lot of folks who don't make it over here would love to see her.

Hi Stephen – very enlightning trhead on the early Fokker DVII types. I find the field mods to the crosses and touchups very attractive to model. To me it brings the project to life and tells a story of that specific craft.

Oh – and a very nicely executed Fokker BTW, I do like like the look of this one
