Hello fellow modellers

I have started the vigniette with the main object the Focke Wulf 189 of Great Wall Hobby in 1/48

Because I haven't received the kit yet ( ) I started building the characters around it.

I will use one mechanic figure from Dragon dayfighter pilots and ground personell 1/48 , the Kubelwagen from tamiya (not the figures of it, because they have the large pockets in their knees, that means that they are from 1944 an so...)

And the figure that G.W.H. kit contains

So, the kits are these:

And the beggining

Hi Nick,

Nice start of an interesting project...

If you have questions about the kit when you will start to build it, don't hesitate to ask me. I have just finished mine today. I think you will enjoy the Great Wall Hobby kit...

I am not a specialist, but it seems the interior colour was mostly the same as the exterior colour. If you google "Kuebelwagen" you'll find quite a few pictures of these in various museums.

Hi Nick

It would be the same as the outside BASE colour. In this case either sand yellow or German grey. If you plan to camouflage the outside of the Kubelwagen with green and/or brown on top of the base colour this should NOT be done on the inside as well.

I have recently build the same kit. It is an excellent kit with no problems. Here are some photos as inspiration.

Sorry for the delay but I haven't got the kit yet
It's because I ordered it from a model shop to order it from lucky model (my father has no credit card). The shops are closed until tommorow.

But I have moved in with the Kubelwagen (no photos).

Hello Nick
When you receive Fw kit, you shoudn't be too much happy with die-cut masks. some of them have bad shape. But more important: it is necessary to replace small pieces and all masks for rounded surfacs with self made, with tamiya masking tape, for example. Original masks can unstick..

Dear All-
Great Wall Hobbies has well noted the problems some modellers are having with the quality and fit of the masking. As this is the first areoplane kit, they are donig their best to improve and all constructive criticism is duely noted and will be considered when planning new production runs and new developments.
Cheers,
Guido

After finishing the Stuka, I have finally started the FW

As Mr. Rowan said, I'll glue the rudder pedals just before I close the canopy, to avoid breaking them

Very nice work! And I like the figures too...This kit is very elaborate: I can't wait to see how you handle the masking of the clear parts...

Before assembling the tail booms, maybe put a spacer, in the middle lenght only, to "bend" them outwards: The real booms were aerodynamically slightly "swollen" when viewed from above.

If you find the old Bandai Kubelwagen, it is much more accurate in outlines than the Tamiya kit, if you use Tamiya details on it: Wheels, steering wheel, seats etc...

I got measurements from a Kubelwagen owner, and the windshield is off by four inches horizontally and two inches vertically: It is around 1:44 scale(!)... The body is off by two inches in width just about all over, which is a lot on this small thing... The hood's downward angle is wrong too: Too flat...

A good Tamiya vehicle like it is the Steyr 1500 automobile: It is very accurate, but much bigger...

Gaston
