Well folks, I think I've uncovered the BIGGEST problem with this kit.

IT'S NOT ON THE SHELVES OF MY LHS YET !!!

It would appear that all the Chinese manufacturers are given much higher hurdles to clear than Japanese ones.. eg Mr Green eulogises about the Tamiya P-51 and how good it is and glosses over the rivets on the wings.. exactly what he put the Trumpeter P-51 down for. Seems Tamiya can do no wrong on Hyperscale.
@ Gaston, I think you need to review your comments about the base of the tail fins as the kits are definitely not concave.
You also need to look at a kit that hasn't been painted yet as paint can throw your perception off by changing shadows etc.
@ Dave, did your ignore button fail on this one..
Congratulations to Great Wall on releasing a model that many people have wanted for many years at a good price.
Enough bickering, get back to your benches!!

Both the Monogram and the GW kit have fin bases that are not concave enough compared to the real aircraft, but the problem is slightly more accentuated on the GW, as was reported and seen in photos.

I have both kits now, and will not splice-in the Monogram tail booms because I can carve into the GW booms easier than adapting the Monogram parts which also need the same "hollowing-out" carving anyway...

The new GW parts are very impressive-looking, but a huge amount of work is needed, especially for scratchbuilding the canopy... The base of the canopy indicates clear copying of the Monogram kit in plan view shape, except for weirdly mismatching the bottom and top windscreen.

I have the Vector resin set for the cowls/engines, and the propeller set, (the quality of all this is truly outstanding, among the very best resin I have seen, and the price very modest for what you get) and these two resin sets are not really an option considering the new kit's cowl and props...

The wrong long nose in the box is inconsequential for me, as much modifications is needed to the entire nose profile, including changing the entire canopy/fuselage height ratio. Successfully smash-moulding a new cockpit canopy in two parts (or in one single part if I get help on it) will determine if I manage to finish this.

to anyone that has the kit, is there sufficient "meat" on the top fuse edges to sand it to the correct profile?
