With the Hasegawa spinners being so different from the new kit's, whose are more accurate?

actually, hurricanes had several types of spinners, so both are potentially (but perhaps not actually) accurate. compare:






even the top and bottom images seem to have slightly different spinners despite being similar in shape.

Three types:

de Havilland - short and pointed - 3rd photo.

Rotol - short and blunt, bulbous, same as fitted to Spitfire Mk II. 2nd photo.

Rotol long chord - long and pointed - specifically designed for Hurricane to replace the Rotol borrowed from the Spitfire. 4th photo.

First two fitted to Hurricane Mk I, the Rotol long chord was fitted to later built Mk Is and other Mks.

That’s not correct. 69 Squadron carried out reconnaissance duties and their Hurricanes were tasked with the sorties over the most dangerous targets. P3144 was locally modified by lightening the airframe and fitting two cameras. Land Temperate (Dark Earth/Dark Green) pattern A was the original scheme not Dark Earth/Mid Stone. It was over painted with a locally mixed ‘Matt Royal Blue’ colour made from five gallons of De Luxe Boston blue, seven pints of turpentine, 16 lbs of zinc powder, and 3 lbs of De Luxe black. The fin and rudder were not re-painted and left in the original Dark Earth/Dark Green.

A Mk.I Hurricane has 5 potential props

Watts 2 blade.

De Havilland Spitfire type (early aircraft, and the Finnish and Romanian as well)
overhangs the nose ring as meant for a Spit.

De Havilland Hurricane type, smaller and pointier, used on some early aircafrt, and standard on Tropical Mk.I's and Sea Hurricanes

Rotol Spitfire type, one associated with BoB Hurricanes

Rotol Hurricane type, or 'bullet' Rotol, some late MkI's, all Mk.II's

ALL the Italeri spinners are vile abominations, as the nose ring is too big.
the Italeri kit is so riddled with mistakes I have not finished documenting them..

Sadly there is no OOB accurate Hurricane in 1/48th

It's pretty good, but has some errors, most are inherited from the 72nd fabric wing kit...I wish I'd paid more attention to that as I'd have harassed Airfix..

which deal;s with the problems I mention below.
the really hard problem is the fuselage to wing join, for the non-obsessed it's not that noticeable.
the think wing trailing edge is easy to deal with, the thick ailerons not so.
It maybe a bit too long, but that is not noticeable.
the wheels look a bit 'doughnutty' and the prop spinners look a bit long, but that maybe just photos.

One 'gotcha' on the prop is it is possible to fit eitehr set of blades to each spinner... I've seen two build with DH blades on a Rotol spinner....

As i have said before, poor old Hurricane, if things like this happened on a Spitfire kit you'd not hear the end of it...

A really lovely build, Troy! What I especially like is, that there's only a little bit of weathering. You really have to look for it. Unfortunatly, today it seems to be "state of the art" to overdue weathering, sometimes really extremely ....

Yes it is, Michael! I've built 2 Hurris this year (Airfix and Hasegawa) and was really pleased how easy the Airfix kit went together. You know me by now, I don't make a lot of fuss about a kit - I build it and then I argue ....

Actually, I'm getting three of the Fly 1/32 Hurricanes (Mk.I, IIc, and IId) for Hanukkah and am looking forward to having a look at those. I may do some reviews for AeroScale.
