Hi, I'm building an C47 Dakota of former Yugoslavian Air Force, it was placed on display on former Yugoslavian Air Force Base Željava, now on Bosnian and Croatian terittory ( border ). The airceaft is in bad shape and I'm modelling it's current look. the base is Trumpeter's modell in 1/48 scale, no aftermarket sets, all modifications and updates are in scratch.

The original:

Hi,

I will closely watch your build, because it is my intention to build the same subject. So far, so good... Some very nice structural details. Do you have any references besides the photos?

All the best

I have a few blueprint of the Dakota.....

I finished the right side of the hull, here it is in sections, first the " toilet section " :

Corridor between the toilet and the cockpit with all the " gadgets " :

Cockpit :

A view of the completed inner side of the right half of the hull :

A few pieces of the hull on starboard side of the aircraft, on inner engine side, a cover are missing, I started to build the visible area, here is the beginning of the work :

The airbrakes are very poor, they don't look like original at all. so I had to rebuild them from zero.
Here is how Trumpeter's parts look:

In progress:

Finished, only few small corrections left:

And the start of building the engines firewall:

I finished the firewall, it doesn't have too much details, but after the joining with the rest of the engine compartments it will look just fine, and I made the hull details around the engine :

A slow progress in a last few days, didn't have much inspiration for modelling.....The cockpit is almost finished except the seats, to be continued.....

Wow!!!!! Magnificent work so far! I love the fact you use the Trumpeteer kit: It has the much better cross-section of fuselage than the real skinny Monogram (2 mm+ !). Even though the rivets are sunk, it's better than none at all as well...

What will you do to fix the biggest problem: The engine cowlings? The Monogram ones are useable I hear.

Keep up the amazing work!

During the Balkan wars somebody practiced target shooting on the original plane, so I had to make new door to represent the bullet holes ( made with needle ), this is how it looks :

And comparing with the door originally in the box :

amazing work m8. Tbh you shouldn't buy the kit at all since you alone scratch built almost everything. hehehe.. Nice work so far m8. Will this one be a diorama plane or something or simply a destroyed plane. It is nice to see this built with all these details since i have a 1/72 dacota on my self and could use your ideas on them Cheers!!

Here she is, painted. I can't tell you the colors I used precisely because all of them are different mixes, but the base are R.A.F. colors used by Yugoslavian Air Force at that time. The shading is done with post - shading method, more to come soon
