I found a cool thing for the rotating beacon, this is a bead that I found at a craft store, they come in many sizes and colors and they are reflective so they look very cool for lights.

chopper is just about done, so now on the the water and painting the figures. The water is started by using 5 minute epoxy tinted with water based paint. The tree is made with a balsa trunk and paper.

the epoxy has good depth but it hardens too flat to look like a rice paddy so I use a product called "water effects" from a company called Vallejo, they make a paint line also. the water effects look like very thick white glue but it dries clear and glossy. Just use a large brush to tease the water effects into waves and ripples like this.

while it is still wet I stick green hemp rope strands and bushes into it to simulate rice.

after 6 hours of drying it looks like this and it will eventually turn totally clear. If you want some white foam you can add it with white paint later.

Hey Doug, I really like this, came together very well. Maybe I am biased, but V.N. dios are my favorite probably because of watching the news with Howard Cossel every night signing off with his comments and total casualties every night. I was just waiting for my number to come up, but thank god the situation ended just before. This piece is an excellent tribute, if you intended it to be or not, to the guys that went and gave what they had. I don't see many medivac dios, but they were targeted by the N.V.A. and suffered terribly. Accurate or not, I find this one outstanding, job well done so far.

Thank you for your kind words, and you are very right about it being a tribute. My Father was in Vietnam and I never went to war but work in aviation and just want to express my deep affection for those who did fight and die. The medical helicopters and crews in Vietnam took a lot of abuse when they went in to take care of the wounded. I am glad you like it so far. It should be done in the next few days but it has been a lot of fun to do.

Holy wow, that looks great! Doug, I noticed there were no photos in your Gallery. You should add some (that is if Kitmaker works).

It came out really nicely. Good job overall. You still haven't answered my question though. Was "Dork" an actual aircraft, or artistic license? I can't find any reference to it.
