hi all,

there seems to be some interest in making a diorama to go along with the aircraft at the moment.basic rule's to be along the lines of :- at least 1 aircraft with a base, with or without figures...nothing is set in stone so anything goes.

would anyone be interested in a campaign?

i was thinking about a start date of early 2013 to run for 9 months or a year ?

i dont mind running it but if anyone would like to host it your more than welcome...

all the best paul

Definitively interested but I have a rather poor track record in campaigns

Considering the amount of work, a full year would be a good time period.

I think I'd recommend 1/144 for this one
You'd only need 13 kits...

I have three or four kits to donate to the cause. these can had for less than $5 each, with judicious ebay bidding.

suppose we were to collaborate to build this scene,,,

I could build that shed, I have tons of hard drive ribbon cable erm, I mean N scale corrugated iron roof...

Maybe its just the wrong time of the year to propose campaigns as this is the holiday season with many people absent.

Maybe we should also promote it with the armorama AFV builders and challenge them to combine AFV with flying machines? There must be many scenes possble with helicopters delivering supplies to ground troops, picking up wounded...

In any case, please don't give up just yet, I am really looking forward to this

I'd be up for a diorama, Haven't done one in a long time.

Sam and I use to do them together for competitions with the Air Cadets. Each year was to a theme so all the squadrons were building to a similar idea. Some how we were always in the top three Here are just some of them to get some juices flowing all in 1/72 scale.

Theme - Lightnings. We did two Lightnings on a Quick reaction Alert (QRA) from the QRA Sheds at RAF Binbrook. The Shed was a scale replica of the original, as I worked at Binbrook (after the station closed) at the time and had access to them. The shed even had working lights

Theme - Desert Storm. We did four F-16's in Various stages of readiness

Theme - Arctic Deployment. We did three Fw190's in the winter. For Humour value we had a worker urinating up a tree which not many people noticed

Theme - 100 Years of Flight. We did a museum of pioneering aircraft.

Theme - Falklands. we did two Harrier dogfighting a Skyhawk. again for humour we added a guy in water surrounded by sharks which no one noticed. which isn't a surprise as he's the size of a pin head

Theme - Red Arrows Anniversary. We had the rare fortune of going to the Red Arrows Display Season Launch at RAF Cranwell so we did the diorama on that

Theme - Afghanistan. We did a Chinook undergoing transportation.

Theme - RAF in Germany. We did a Pembroke based at RAF Wildenrath.

Hope enjoy them

Those are all wonderful, I especially like the Chinook being assembled in the field.

I'd like to depict a forward delivery of some kind, a big plane with cargo doors open and something big emerging.

Aw heck. Count me in too.
Allen, that's awesome stuff!
Here's my current build-- I had to add something to spruce up an otherwise OOB OV-10A Bronco build, and to emphasize the Vietnam campaign theme (the foreground palm trees are incomplete so far)...

The aircraft will set on the tallest (coat hanger) wire.
For the campaign proposed here, I'd probably set a plane in a revetment. Maybe a Desert Storm A-10, I've wanted to build one of those for some time now...

I'm tempted to throw my hat in here guys, I have an idea for a 1/48 dio featuring a Bf 109 and a Bf 110. A quick clarification required though, I also want to include a flak gun emplacement which I will build for the Anti-Aircraft Campaign over on Armorama. Are we able to include some items which have been built previously, or for other Campaigns, or does everything in the diorama here have to be a dedicated "fresh" build ???

I think this Campaign is a great idea, I find good dioramas absolutely fascinating, but with my inexperience at dio's I think I would need the full 9 or 12 months.

Cheers, D

damian or anyone else, i've no problem with you including something from another build as long as its not the main subject.

cheers paul

Lots of great stuff here.
I may be interested in going with this if we have say a year to complete. I'm thinking of doing one of those ICM 1/48 Spitfires. They have a fair few removeable panels and a complete Merlin engine. So theres the possibility of a maintainance scene.

7 ...

come on people, lets get this off the ground...or on the ground !...

3 more before i can submit it.

i'm thinking a year long campaign, you can use other built pieces in the dio. as long as they are not the main subject.

a plinthed Meteor in Argentina

here: 37°56'30.82"S 57°35'0.26"W

or a B-29 crashed on a glacier in Greenland

here: 80°15'49.57"N 60°30'51.26"W
