P-47C's only used under fuselage shackles.
Wing shackles weren't fitted.
Drop tanks with the 56th...
200 gal tanks used on operations from August 12-23rd 1944.
25th August..civilian contractors arrived unexpectedly at Halesworth to fit the "bulged keels" field modification.
This, with the pressurising modification, allowed the aircraft to use the new 75g tanks.
Paper, then metal 108g tanks were first used on November 26th, and the flat 150g tanks first mission use was on Feb 20th 1944.


This aircraft transferred to the 63rd FS on 21st Sept 43 becoming UN-S.
It was written off on 24th December.

Ok, thanks for the concise summary. These markings with 3 kills place the aircraft between August 17 and September 3, 1943. So it's really a choice of the 200 gallon ferry tank, the 75 gallon tank, or no tank at all.

Methinks My Comrade will be unencumbered on this build.

Mine would've been finished a couple of days ago but when I unmasked the windscreen part of the canopy the Matt varnish had leaked under the masking.
Work in progress on sorting that out and it's just the wingtip lights and pitot tube to fit and she's finally done.

I've only gone and finished it!!!

Congrats on crossing the finish line. It's one exceptional build of a rare P-47 version. I know that I certainly will include one when I start my P-47 collection.

Build another one you Muppet! I'm sure you can manage to come up with a conversion for the 1/24 Kinetic Razorback and do the same aircraft more biggerer.

Yes, they are one of the options in mine and Peters recent book. Although I only used the noseart, name, kill markings and data panel decals.
All the other markings and serial numbers are painted on using Miracle Masks.

Spectacular build!

Any chance we could get a video of your technique for sanding and filling and re-detailing parts?I am particularly interested in how you use CA and talcum powder to fill and how you use Isopropyl and the other materials to re shape plastic surfaces.
