Hai Jean-Luc,
I can only repeat the good comments about this built and the building speed, quite extraordinary.
But I am also impressed by the quality of the pictures you post. Could yuo give us an update on what photo equipment/lighting conditions you are using? I can certainly learn something here.

Hi all,
Back from Heiden (lovely expo, it was fun) where I only spent one hour or so working on the model. I did some chipping effects on the underside. There is still some work to do and then the upper sides...

Hai Drabslab and all,
I'm afraid there is nothing to learn. Here is where I take my picture and the camera I use for my modeling work. It is my "old" Panasonic FZ-5...
Today I managed to do the paint chipping on the upper surfaces. I still have to do the "special" colors: blue, red, yellow and silver...

Great work Jean-Luc and so quick, it's been a treat to follow your build along.

Thanks Luciano,
Here is what I have done in the last couple of days. First I have finished the micro painting (I have added the aluminium chipping)...
And today I have worked on the smaller items...
I still have to do the final weathering and then glue all the small pieces. The end is near...

Hi Jean-Luc
I'm shocked! I thought you'd have finished the build while we were off the air!
But seriously - great stuff!
All the best

That looks mighty nice, Jean-Luc- the level of distress to the finish is so nicely restrained.

Chuck,
This summarizes my impression as well, but you've found such words of wisdom!
All the best,

My large parcel containing four large boxes from Eduard arrived yesterday. As far as the decals are concerned the Sky codes are a little pale but the red and blue of the national markings are perfectly acceptable similar in colour to Techmod. The red is rather blotchy though. There is nothing to denigrate in the kit but I can find some faults in the instructions. I'll put them in the other, review, thread tomorrow.

Hi all,
I'm sorry to disappoint you Rowan and Mal. Especially since you are known to be notorious speed-builders!
Good idea Antoni.
This evening I have finished the final weathering of the underside by adding some shadows and oil streaks using Faber Castell "Pitt" felts...
These felts are very easy to use and it is possible to achieve a wide range of effects with them.

A lot of people may not know what pitt felts are. Rather than explain take a look at amazon. Only six shades of grey, not fifty.

Hi Antoni
The range of opinions in the customer reviews of these brush pens is extraordinary - from "wonderful" and "lovely", to "poor quality - only lasted 5 minutes".
@ Jean-Luc - the product description states that the tip holds its shape in constant use. In your experience, how does it stand up to the uneven surface of a model kit? You've certainly done a wonderful job depicting the classic oil staining on the underside of a Spit.
All the best

As far as the markers are concerned, I'm also curious as to their permanence. I've used various brands of markers in my art career and found them all to fade in sunlight. Hangar that Spit!

Jean-Luc: I've just got back from a holiday to see your awesome build in progress. Really envious of your skills! The chipping technique is so effective.
Chuck: Those pens claim to use India Ink, i.e. a carbon-based pigment, which should be pretty good for longevity.

Hi all,
Concerning the felts, I have not used them long enough to be able to tell you if they will last in the long term. Chuck raised a good point and I will examine my models carefully in the next months...
This evening I have finished the final weathering of the top surfaces with the "Pitt" brush pens. I have mainly used the "Walnut Brown" tone. Here are two pictures: before and after...
The difference isn't great but still noticeable I think. I should be able to finish the model tomorrow like planned if all goes well.

Hi all,
Exactly two weeks after it has arrived at my doorstep, my Eduard Spitfire Mk.IX is finished!
As you have probably witnessed in this build log, the new Eduard 1/48 scale Spitfire Mk.IX kit was an enjoyable experience from the start to the finish. It is probably the best kit from the czech manufacturer to date. I also think there is no better Spitfire kit in the same scale now, including other versions. I'm already looking forward to see other boxings of the kit!
