I remember in my early 20's. I was trying to build a Monogram Typhoon in the basement of my girlfriends mother's home.
The girlfriends mother came up behind me, seen what I was up to, and explained "Oh!, grow-up".
I never modelled during my 30's and 40's. It took me a little while to 'grow-up'. When I finally did grow-up, I went straight away and started buying kits.
Today, I own about +/-200 kits, and realize I'm part of the greatest, nobelest, and satisfying hobbies in the world.
What other hobby gives you art, mechanics, historical study, peace, and cost effectiveness?

Robb,
Very orderly work bench, good workable layout.
Thanks for the kind remarks about my clean and orderly modeling room. I realized that maybe people will start wondering if I actually do any modeling in there. So I decided to take a panoramic picture of what I was currently doing (one lazy Saturday). So from left to right here goes:
Doing some gap filling on a CMK Pz.kpfw 35(t) with a little help from gravity.
Enjoying a glass of some nectar of the gods (called beer for you young modelers).
To the right of that I am also enjoying a Honduran made Petite Corona Cigar with a natural wrap (called an evil tobacco product for you young modelers).
Right of that on the Tamiya workbench I am doing some touch up restoration on a Matchbox M-7 Priest built a couple of years ago.
Next to that I am watching the latest posts on Kitmaker.net (Plug) on my iPad (a portable computing device used to connect to the internet for you older modelers) - Keyboard optional.
And finally I have my trusty Model Master 3000 airbrush (a Aztek A470 for you young modelers) out to do some pre-shading (the ones that are all primed in the background).
So just because it is clean does not mean it is not used.
Hope you enjoy my little good natured and hopefully humorous post + = me
Cheers

I always appreciate a tread like this so I can show my wife that I do have access to a support group for kit addiction.
It's time to update my inventory but I'm pretty sure I'm somewhere north of 600 kits, more than any LHS in the county. I've actually realized that the problem is not having too many kits. The problem is I probably won't live to be 175 years old so that I'd have time to build them all!
There are worse problems (and addictions) in this life.

Ah Robb, I don't model well when also enjoying the nectar of the gods, lord knows I've tried.
I do like your paint rack, can you tell us more.
Mark, noticing that his personal nectar supply needs replenishing...

The paint rack is my old Sears Chemistry set from the '60's. Unfortunately it does not hold Tamiya or Vallejo bottles/jars very well. Testors and Humbrol style are perfect.
I found a link that shows a picture of one. I have the top one

Russell, nice stash, not so many kits as to need more then one life time to build them. I have friends that have literally more then a 1,000 kits, and spend their time at hobby shows trying to sell off the over stock of old, out of date kits.
As for me, I've always had a simple rule of no more then 6 kits in my stash. I just don't buy for the sake of having a kit that may not be available down the road. There is always something new, and better designed/made/latest technology to surpass what's been out there to peak my interest. I also try to stay within my area of interest: WW11/Pacific Theater/Allies.
I know that I'm in a small minority, but it works for me, and it keeps the wife happy. I spend enough on supplies to help keep my LHS in business.
Joel
I am trying to keep my stash to the bare minimum but have nevertheless collected enough to keep me going for several years without buying anything new.
Now I am concentrating on furhter reducing my stock to one or two models. Its not worth having a personal stock when any local hobby store has an enormous stock that I can draw from.
